MOONEY PUTS UP A FIGHT BUT FALLS TO ST EDS

STRUTHERS, OHIO- The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals stayed in it until the end, but the St. Edward Eagles pulled away late in a 5-4 victory on Thursday.

The game was tied at four with St. Edwards batting in the top of the ninth when Henry Slaby was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

After St. Edward Eagles Varsity scored two runs in the top of the second, the Cardinals answered with two of their own then St. Edward’s scored when Collin Ashdown grounded out, scoring one run.

The Cardinals then answered again when Bronson Ferencak singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and Matt Kay grounded out, scoring one run. Luke Godlewski got the start for St. Edward’s as the righty went six and a third innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out six.

Jeffrey Brenner led Cardinal Mooney with two hits in four at bats. Logan Boyd was on the mound for the Cardinals as the righthander went seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out four before Aidan Hryb threw two innings out of the bullpen.

Cardinal Mooney will now travel to Champion on Saturday to take on the Golden Flashes.
