MOONEY THROTTLES TOP TEAM IN THEIR BRACKET

ORWELL OH- Cardinal Mooney sent a loud and proud message to the rest of the district on Wednesday night when they emphatically took down the second seeded Grand Valley Mustangs 10-0. The win advances Mooney to the district semifinals.

Cardinal Mooney got things moving in the first inning, when Cole Litman doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the sixth inning. Their batters contributing to the big inning included Cam Sweeney and Litman, who each drove in runs.

One bright spot for Grand Valley was a single by Dane Sparks in the first inning.

Litman was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals. Litman went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out 13.

Sparks took the loss for Grand Valley. The righty went five and two-thirds innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and striking out five.

Cardinal Mooney tallied nine hits on the day. Zach Hyrb and Sweeney each collected multiple hits. Hyrb led with four hits in four at bats.

Sparks went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Grand Valley  in hits.

The Cardinals will matchup with 7th seeded Rootstown in the district semifinals. That game will be played Monday at Cene Park at 6:30.
