MOONEY WINS A FRIDAY NIGHT CAP

NILES, OHIO- Cardinal Mooney took home a 5-4 victory over John F. Kennedy at Eastwood Field on Friday night.

Cardinal Mooney got on the board in the first inning when Logan Boyd doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. The Eagles evened things up at two in the bottom of the first inning when Johnny Brenner threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate.


The Cardinals took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning when an error scored one run for the Cardinals and Cam Sweeney singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Brenner was the winning pitcher as he lasted six innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out seven. Boyd threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Jake Hettrick was on the mound for John F. Kennedy. The bulldog allowed four hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four. Jaden Rishel threw two innings in relief. Cardinal Mooney will return to the diamond when they play Struthers on Saturday at 2:30 pm. John F. Kennedy will travel to take on Aquinas on Monday at 5:00 pm.
