MOONEY’S MIKOS, OLESH WRAP THE RAIDERS

C/O Nancy Mikos

STRUTHERS, OH-  A night where there were clouds of uncertainty in regards to weather, there was lightning coming off the Cardinal Mooney bats on Friday.  The Cardinals teamed up for 13 hits to upend South Range 11-4 at Cene Park.

Brandon Mikos (4-0) went 4 1/3 innings to get the victory, striking out 3, and walking as many.  Senior-Brennen Olesh would relieve the Freshman, and silence the Raider sticks by striking out three of his own.  For South Range, Nolan Shannon went 1 2/3 innings with 2 walks and 3 K’s.  He was relieved by the team of Jaxon Anderson, and Mike Cunningham.

Offensively, the Cards were led by a 6 run top of the first which was keyed by Olesh who had a bases-clearing, 3 RBI Triple.  Anthony Potesta would also be a key contributor with 2 RBI on the evening.  South Range started off the scoring with 1 in the top of the first and were threatening for more when the Raiders would ground into an inning-ending double play.  The Raiders would chip at the lead all the way up to the 5th inning, when Mooney scored three, and silenced the Raiders the rest of the night.

South Range falls to 10-12, and gears up for Louisville on Saturday.  The Raiders also have a busy week starting Monday where they’ll visit Austintown Fitch, and Tuesday where they close out the regular season at home against Girard.
