NEWBURN FLAMES 14 DEVILS IN WIN
LISBON, OH- Parker Newburn was lights out on Monday, striking out 14 and carrying United past David Anderson, 5-2.
The right-hander brought the heat all night, scattering six hits and giving up just two runs over six and two-thirds innings before handing the ball off to Kadin Schonauer, who shut the door.
David Anderson actually struck first in the fourth when Myers knocked in a run to give the Blue Devils a short-lived lead. But United responded with a three-run punch in the fifth—Newburn, Cavan Jackson, and Jason Pratt all ripped doubles in the inning to flip the script.
United didn’t let up from there. They racked up 10 hits on the night, with Quentin Taylor leading the way out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4. Jackson was clutch in the middle of the order, driving in two and finishing 2-for-3 at the dish.
David Anderson’s Carpenter pitched well despite the loss, going the distance with 10 strikeouts and no walks. He gave up 10 hits and five runs, four of them earned.
Myers and Hinchliffe each collected two hits and an RBI for the Blue Devils, but it wasn’t enough to slow down a United squad riding behind their ace.
These two teams will meet again on Wednesday, this time with United playing host.
