NEWBURN HITS 20 PUNCHOUTS
LEETONIA OH- United came out swinging and never let off the gas in an 11-1 beatdown of Leetonia on Wednesday. Kadin Schonauer led the charge with a 3-for-5 day that included two doubles and a no-doubt solo bomb in the third.
The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board. Cavan Jackson knocked in a run with a groundout, and Wyatt Swanson followed with an RBI single down the line in the opening frame.
Schonauer’s homer in the third was part of another crooked number for United. Add in a Leetonia miscue and a Carter Simmons RBI single, and it was all downhill from there for the Bears.
On the bump, Parker Newburn was flat-out filthy. The righty struck out 20—yeah, twenty—while giving up just two hits and one run over seven innings. He walked just one and was in command the whole way.
United racked up 17 hits by the final out. Quentin Taylor had himself a day, going 4-for-5 and swiping three bags. Jackson and Newburn each drove in a pair, and Simmons, Swanson, Tyler Wood, and Schonauer all had multi-hit games. The Eagles were aggressive on the basepaths too, stealing six total.
Leetonia did pull off a rare triple play, but it was one of the few bright spots for the Bears, who managed just two hits in the game. United hits the road Monday to take on Southern, riding high and swinging hot bats.
