OBRIEN SHINES AS EAGLES SHUT OUT SPRINGFIELD

CANFIELD, Ohio –

Freshman pitcher Isabella O’Brien allowed one hit in the top of the first inning then never looked back.

The first year phenom has faced off against some of the best talent the valley has to offer in:Canfield, South Range, Ursuline, West Branch, as well as division 1 Massillon Perry. Through the ups and downs of the season O’Brien always hung tough and shined today in the Lady Eagles 4-0 victory over the Springfield Tigers.

Her first inning of work proved to be the must difficult on the day. With a dropped third strike to start the game the Tigers had a runner on in Carlee Bacon. After whiffing her second batter of the inning, O’Brien allowed an infield single to her opposing pitcher on the day, Abby Joseph. With Joseph safe at first the Tigers tried to catch the Eagles sleeping, sending Bacon home but she would be cut down at the plate. O’Brien would sit her third batter down on strikes to end the inning.

Surviving the first, O’Brien would lock in for the rest of the ball game, allowing no hits for the rest of the day and never giving up the free pass. The Lady Eagles pitcher also struck out the side in back-to-back-to-back innings from the third to the fifth.

Producing not only on the mound O’Brien had a solid performance at the plate as well for the Lady Eagles. An RBI double in the second as well as an RBI single in the fifth highlighted her day at the plate. The freshman’s efforts lead the Lady Eagles to the victory, breaking a four game losing skid and bringing Hubbard back to .500 on the year.
