OFFENSE CARRIES CLIPPERS OVER BEARS

LEETONIA, OH-  It was a tough day on Thursday for the Leetonia Lady Bears Softball team, who lost 17-2 to Columbiana.  Leetonia got on the board in the first inning when Kalie Eastek doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.  After Columbiana evened the scoring with one run in the top of the fourth, Leetonia answered with one of their own. Columbiana scored when Maci Linhart hit a solo homer. The Lady Bears then answered when Kaitlyn Buffone singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

Columbiana pulled away for good with nine runs in the second inning. In the second Alyssa Tohm singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, Gabrielle Herdman singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Linhart singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs, Alexis Cross singled on a 3-0 count, scoring one run, Marisa McDonough singled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs, Morgan Highley singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, and Haley Ward‘s wild pitch allowed one run to score for the Clippers.

Marissa Makosky was credited with the victory for Columbiana. She went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking zero.  Ward took the loss for Leetonia. She allowed 11 hits and 17 runs over five innings.

Lissie Lorch led Leetonia with two hits in two at bats.  Columbiana tallied 11 hits on the day. HighleyMcDonoughTohmHerdman, and Linhart each had multiple hits for Columbiana. The Lady Clips also didn’t commit a single error in the field. Herdman had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
