OLEXA PLAYS HERO SENDS SPARTANS HOME VICTORIOUS
BOARDMAN, Ohio –
Looking to expand their wining streak to 5, the Hubbard Lady Eagles (4-2) traveled to take on the Boardman Spartans (4-2).
Both squads had their aces on the mound in this non-conference matchup. For the hometownSpartans, it was Maddie Lester getting the nod as the starter. Lester came into the day with a 2-1 record, allowing 12 earned runs over her first 3 starts.
Her opponent across the diamond was Hubbard’s Haley Croyle. An Akron softball commit, Croylemade her 3rd appearance of the season and was hoping to improve her record to 2-1. The two combined for 17 strikeouts and allowed only 7 hitson the day.
After 4 scoreless innings, the Lady Eagles were finally able to break the seal on the game. Emily Filicky jump started the inning with a double. Sacrifice bunts from Grace Narkum and IsabellaO’Brien would then plate Filicky to put Hubbard up 1-0.
No other runs would come across until the bottom of the 7th inning. With two outs in the inning, the Spartans had their backs against the wall with a runner on 1st. A single by Kat O’Horo would move the runner into scoring position before Jenna Olexa would double into left field, bringing across both the tying and winning runs, giving the Spartans a walk off victory, 2-1.
