ONE RUN ENOUGH FOR HUBBARD TO ADVANCE

HUBBARD OH- Hubbard took an early lead and held on tight for a 1-0 victory over Streetsboro in Thursday’s sectional final showdown. The Eagles notched the only run of the game on a clutch double in the first inning.

Pitching was the star of the show with both squads putting up a fight on the mound. Hubbard’s pitchers racked up an impressive 14 strikeouts, while Streetsboro’s crew managed four.

Tyler Wright was the winning pitcher for Hubbard, throwing a one-hitter over four and one-third innings with seven Ks and a couple of walks. Streetsboro’s Jack Batten was solid too, yielding one run on five hits over four innings, striking out three and issuing three walks. Braydon Songer came in to nail down the save for Hubbard.

At the plate, Andrew Kali drove in the game’s lone run for Hubbard, batting 1-for-2. Johnny Reyes was a bright spot offensively with two hits in three trips to the plate.

Scott Wilson picked up the only hit for Streetsboro, going 1-for-3. Defensively, Streetsboro was on point, not committing a single error, with Josh Boldin getting involved in six plays.

Hubbard advances to the district semifinal against Canfield on Monday. They will play at Cene Park at 4:00.
