PETRO POURS ON FIRE AS CANFIELD BLANKS QUAKERS

CANFIELD, OH- Cardinal hurler, Ryan Petro aptly set the Salem lineup ablaze from the mound on Saturday afternoon.  Petro cruised on his way to a one-hitter against one of the area’s stronger teams in a 10-0 route, but it wasn’t as one-sided as it reads.

Salem senior ace, Lane Rhodes, showed why there’s so much interest in him at the next level as he went 3 strong innings giving up just one hit, and striking out five Cardinal batters.  Carson Rhodes pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief surrendering 8 runs on 4 hits.  Blaize Exline was the only registrant in the hit column for the Quakers.

For Canfield, Petro controlled the offense and defense with his pair of hits and 2 RBI’s, while on the bump striking out six, and walking two in a complete-game effort.  Landon Beidelchies put a quarter in the merry-go-round in the fourth with a 3-run double.  Gianni Gaetano and Dom Magliocco would each have 2-RBI days, with AJ Havrilla adding one as well.

The Cardinals will turn their attention now to Akron Hoban on Monday on the road to take on one of the top teams in the state.  Salem will host Minerva on Tuesday to open up EBC play. The game is set for 7 pm.
