POLAND BEATS OUT WILDCATS TO PUNCH TICKET

POLAND OH- In tournament play, Poland Lady Bulldogs survived beating Struthers by a score of 5-1 and picking up their 19th win of the season and advanced past Sectionals.  Katie McDonald picked up her 19th win in the circle striking out 9 Wildcat batters.

Struthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead, scoring in the top of the second inning but Poland answered with 2 runs in the 4th inning and 2 runs in the 5th.  Emily Denney led Poland with 2 hits including a double and Sophia D’Angelo collected an RBI after her single.  Freshman Olivia Horn started the 5th with a double to left center.  A single by Denney, followed by a Struthers error plated two Bulldogs in the bottom half of the 5th.  Katie McDonald led off the bottom half of the 6th with a single and then scored on D’Angelo’s RBI single.
For Struthers, Emma Morris drove in a run and collected two hits.  Bella Slaina added the only other hit for Stuthers.  Nicolette Pezzone took the mound loss for the Wildcats.
Poland resumes action on Saturday against cross-town rival Mooney and advances to District Play on Tuesday against West Branch. First pitch is set for 5:00 at Jefferson
