POLAND CRUISES TO DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

JEFFERSON OH- The Poland Seminary Lady Bulldogs jumped out early against West Branch in the Northeast District Semi-Final game and didn’t look back.  The Bulldogs plated 6 runs in the first two innings and added 2 more in the sixth defeating The Warriors by a score of 8-1 for their 21st victory of the year.

Sophomore shortstop Mary Brant homered in the first inning and again in the sixth collecting 3 hits and 5 RBIs on the day.  Senior 3rd Baseman and Mt Union commit Emily Denny added 3 hits including a double to lead off the game.  Senior 2nd Baseman and St. Bonaventure commit Abby Farber had three hits helping lead Poland’s offense which pounded 13 on the day against Riley Pittman.  Senior Connie Cougras also added 2 hits in the contest.

Poland’s defense didn’t disappoint either, with Katie McDonald allowing only 4 hits and striking out seven on the way to her 21st win in the circle.  Poland added 2 double plays that halted any advance by the Warriors.

Sydney Mercer had two hits for West Branch and their only RBI.  Poland matches up against 224 rival Canfield in the District final game on Thursday.
