POLAND STRONG START ENOUGH TO GET PAST EAGLES

HUBBARD OH- The start of the season started off hot for Poland on Tuesday night traveling to Hubbard.  The Bulldogs jumped out alto a huge 9-0 lead with runs in the first, third, and fifth innings.  When the temperature outside began to drop however, the Eagles were the ones that warmed up. They scored 5 runs in the 5th and 6th combined to attempt a furious comeback. Ultimately the Bulldogs defense would hold strong in the 7th to hang on to their 9-5 win.

Leanne Williams was the leading hitter for the Bulldogs on the day. She went 4-4 at the plate with 3 doubles and 4 RBI.  Meredith Trevis was right behind her in the lineup and she went 2-3 with a pair of RBI. Katie McDonald went 2-3 as well with a RBI.

McDonald got the start in the circle and went the distance for Poland.  She threw 7 innings and gave up 2 earned runs on 6 hits.  She struck out 14 and walked 5.

Lauren Komorek was a big bat for Hubbard. She set the tone at the top of the lineup going 2-3 with 3 RBI.  Phoebe Rusnak also had multiple hits going 2-3 with a walk and a RBI.

Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday to complete their series. The game will take place at Poland’s brand new softball field at the high school. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00.
