QUAKERS MAKE QUICK WORK OF MINERVA

SALEM, OH- The Salem Quakers bounced back after 2 straight losses in weeks 6 and 7 in a big way with a 42-13 win over Minerva. The Quakers exploded out of the gate with 22 first-quarter points and never looked back on their way to their 6th win of the season.

Freshman quarterback Jackson Johnson made his 1st start of his career for the injured Niko Walter, and the offense didn’t miss a beat. Scoring on the 3rd play from scrimmage when Johnson took the snap and ran 13 around the left and into the end zone. The Quakers would tack on 2 more first-quarter scores on passes of 19 yards to Jax Booth and 2 yards to Anthony DiMuzio to make it 22-0 after one.

The 2nd quarter was more of the same as the Quakers would put up 2 more scores both TD passes. The first being a 19-yard toss from the freshman quarterback to the guy he was stepping in for Niko Walter, then to his backfield mate Cade Campolito, who took a swing pass 23 yards for a score to make it 36-0 at the half.

In 2 quarters that were dominated by offense, the Quaker D also had a strong 1st half, pitching a shut-out and surrendering only 18 yards by the Lions. Joey Watson and Tyson Swiger had 1st half fumble recoveries for the Quakers. The starters on both sides would make way for the 2nd stringers for the entirety of the 2nd half.

On the night, Johnson was 14-16 for 169 yards and 4 scores, completing passes to 7 different receivers on the night. Cade Campolito turned in another solid performance with 132 yards on only 7 carries, breaking off 3 runs of over 30 yards.

Salem, now 6-2 (3-2), looks to keep themselves in playoff position in week 9 when Akron Kenmore-Garfield comes to Sebo Stadium. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
