RAIDERS KEEP MOONEY GROUNDED

CANFIELD, OH- South Range Volleyball opened their home slate Tuesday night with a win over Mooney in 4 sets (25-18 25-21 23-25 25-22).

In the first set, the Raiders established the tempo of the match- putting solid pressure on the Cardinal defense and making unforced errors all the easier. It was Mooney’s first match of the season and things just weren’t clicking yet. Mistakes let the Raiders sail to a 25-18 victory.

The Raiders jumped ahead to an early advantage in the second set, but Mooney started to put it together late. They stormed back and made set 2 very close. The Raiders were able to hold off the Cardinals but Mooney was able to grab ever-important momentum.

Mooney used that momentum to jump out to a big lead in set three. The Raiders found themselves trailing 19-11, and this time around they were the ones that made a late rally to make it a close-set. Katie Hough was responsible for three straight points to close out the set for Mooney, they avoided the sweep but the Raiders took back momentum.

The fourth set was certainly the most back and forth set of the match. Both teams had big leads, and big rallies to combat those leads. The set came to a 21-21 lead and both teams revved up their defensive intensity. Hustle plays and digs were being made all over the place. The Raiders would, however, walk away victorious. 25-23.

Izzy Lamparty led the Raider offense with 11 kills on the night, along with 2 aces and 2 blocks. Emily Irons had 20 assists and 5 digs. Reagan Irons had 11 digs.

The Raiders return to action Wednesday night as they host Boardman.
