RAY ALWAYS SAVES THE DAY

YOUNGSTOWN OH- If you’re talking about a sport the deals with a goal, you can’t do much without a goalie.  The idea that one of your players is pretty much the last line of defense between your goal and a ball, or puck hurling your way can terrify some people right out of playing the position. That’s why every coach we talk to on YSN tells us that goalies have a special mindset. It’s not for everyone.  With that being said, it must ne impossible to step on the field and just pick up a goalie jersey and be an immediate impact tight? Wrong. For Cardinal’s Mooney’s net blocker Alyssa Ray she has gone from knowing nothing about lacrosse to 300 career saves in just 2 seasons.  The Cardinals main stay in front of the goal never hesitated when head coach Toni Chahine challenged her to fill a role for her team.  Now, just two seasons in the junior has sights set on a remarkable 500 saves in a career. Sitting at over 300 now, and still with one season to play that goal seems more and more probable by the day.

Ray was kind enough to check in with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her journey to a lacrosse goalie.  They discuss how much she’s been able to learn about the sport, what drove her to try it in the first place, and so much more. Check out the latest Mooney Lacrosse Player Profile only on YSN.
