REBELS BATTLE BACK AGAINST RESERVE

COLUMBIANA OH- It was an exciting Saturday matinee in Crestview as the Rebels took a five set thriller against Western Reserve (25-19 11-25 25-16 23-25 15-10).

The Rebels opened set one in a quick hole, down 4-0 before they could blink. That four point lead last until the 11-7 mark, then the Rebels turned it on. Lucy Montgomery got her foul kills in the set in a quick burst and just like that it was tied. The Rebels controller the set from that point. Outscoring the Devils 14-8 the rest of the way. They’d take set 1 25-19.

The Blue Devils didn’t crumble under the didsapointment though. In fact, they did the opposite and dominated set two. Mostly off the incredible serving of Alyvia Hughes, the Devils rolled to a 25-11 set two win.

The Rebels returned the favor and dominated set three. The match was the truest representation of back and forth. 25-16 was the score of set three.

Set four was the most competitive. The Devi’s took an early lead, and held it to 13-8. Then the Rebels responded with a 6-0 run and took a 14-13 lead. The set went completely back and forth after that. Reserve got the clutch points down the stretch and took a 25-23 victory to force a decisive set 5.

Crestview beat the odds to win set five, you don’t often see a team drop set four and respond to win set five. It’s hard to stifle the other team’s momentum and stop them from starting the shorter set fast. The Rebels were able to do that though as they answered each Reserve point to start. Tied up at 3, Crestview took a 7-0 run to grab control. It was 14-7 before Reserve avoided three match points in a row before falling 15-10.

Montgomery  collected a triple double for Crestview with 19 kills, 22 assists, and 19 digs. Grace Auer also had a triple double with 19 kills, 20 assists, and 14 digs. Molly Emch finished with 8 kills, and 4 blocks. Kendra Greaves finished with 16 digs.

Dani Vuletich had a match-high 20 kills for Reserve, and also 6 blocks. Lisa Eichert finished with 12 kills. Hannah Diaz put in a good day of work as well with 13 kills.

Crestview will try to keep their 9-2 record rolling as they travel to Champion. Western Reserve drops to 7-3 and will travel to Mooney on Monday.
