REBELS RALLY THEIR WAY HOME
COLUMBIANA OH— Crestview pulled off some late-inning drama Monday night, walking off Garfield 5-4 in a back-and-forth battle that ended with a bases-loaded walk to seal the deal.
Garfield out-hit the Rebels 9-7 and had the momentum heading into the seventh after clawing back to tie it up, but Crestview wasn’t done. Braden Devine blasted a two-run bomb to right to knot things at 4-4, then Isaac Unkefer drew a walk with the bases juiced to bring home the game-winner.
Garfield looked like they were ready to flip the script in the sixth. Down a pair, Collin Cunningham roped an RBI double and Tyler Lutz followed with a knock to plate two more and give the G-Men a 4-2 edge. But it wouldn’t hold.
Devine had a night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and a game-tying homer. Zach Davis chipped in an early RBI single to get the Rebels rolling in the second.
On the hill, Unkefer locked down the win in relief, tossing two clean innings with a punchout and no hits allowed. Cunningham took the loss after walking three in the seventh, while Garfield starter Aidan Hill fanned 12 over six-plus innings.
Lutz led the charge offensively for Garfield with two RBI, while Hill and Brandyn Bogucki each racked up a pair of hits. These two go at it again Tuesday—this time with Garfield hosting. Should be another good one.
