REBELS START RUN OUT OF GAS AGAINST FORMER STATE CHAMPS

WARREN- The Crestview Rebels got the start they were looking for on Saturday night against defending State Champion-Warren JFK.  Unfortunately, it was only the only victory they’d lay claim to in week 4.  The Rebels fell to the JFK Eagles 28-14.

The Rebs came out swinging early when Dylan Huff intercepted a Greg Valent pass deep in Eagle territory.  Caleb Hill then rewarded Huff for his efforts with an 11-yard TD toss, putting the Rebels up 7-0 with 4:37 left in the first quarter.  Crestview wouldn’t wait long to strike again, this time it was Andrew Yanssens breaking the seal in the second quarter with a 15-yard scamper into the painted grass for a 14-0 lead.  The Rebels were rolling toward victory.

Enter: Murphy’s Law.

JFK came out of the tunnel following halftime similar to the Mighty Ducks in D2.  Same team, just a different mindset.  The Eagles big back, Isaac Hadley opened things up in the second half with a 54-yard TD run that served as a sobering reminder for the Rebels that they were dealing with a state champ (14-7).  Not long after, Greg Valent connected with Alec Burzynski on a 21-yard strike that evened the score, at least on the scoreboard.

Then next possession for JFK would result very similar, just another number on the receiving-end.  This time a 22-yard TD pass from Valent to Hyland Burton (21-14).  The teams would trade punches throughout the rest of the third frame, and into the fourth.  With 5:07 left in the game, Greg Valent would take matters into his own hands (or feet) by taking off on a QB keeper, 58 yards later JFK would essentially put the game on ice (28-14).

The Rebels return to action on the road on Saturday at Shaw (Cleveland) at 2PM.  You can catch all the action on YSN: Crestview (www.ysnlive.com/crestview) at 1:45 with the NCST-East Liverpool Pregame Show, and kickoff with Rocky Brown, and DJ Yokley at 2pm.
