SALEM BATTLES BACK TO EARN SPOT IN DISTRICT FINAL

LOUISVILLE, OH- The Salem Quakers ran off with the lead late in the game in a 10-8 victory over McKinley on Monday. The game was tied at eight with Salem batting in the bottom of the sixth when Brock Young‘s sac fly scored one run for the Quakers, and Nick Coletta cashed in right after with another insurance run.

Coletta led Salem to victory by driving in four runs. Coletta went 3-for-4 at the plate. Coletta drove in runs on a single in the third, a double in the fifth, and a single in the sixth.

Salem tallied five runs in the third inning. Quaker big bats were led by Lane RhodesYoung, and Coletta, all driving in runs in the inning.

McKinley scored four runs in the fifth inning. Zach LeonardAnthony FisherKolt Christopher, and Andrew Huffman each drove in runs during the inning.

Carson Rhodes would get the win in relief. Rhodes lasted two innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out five and walking zero.

Huffman took the loss for McKinley. The hurler allowed one hit and one run over one-third of an inning.

Gavin Wilms started the game for Salem. The pitcher went five innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out nine Christopher started the game for McKinley. Christopher surrendered eight runs on nine hits over three and a third innings, striking out one

Salem collected 11 hits. ColettaWilmsYoung, and Rhodes all managed multiple hits for the QuakersColetta went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Salem in hits.

McKinley tallied eight hits in the game. Huffman and Fisher all collected multiple hits for McKinley. Huffman led McKinley with three hits in four at bats. McKinley tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Fisher led the way with two.

The Quakers will square up again in Louisville on Wednesday, this time with Chardon.  The first pitch is set for 5pm on YSN.
