SALEM BOUNCES BACK WINS THRILLER WITH IRISH

Salem built a nine-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Ursuline’s charge for a 12-11 victory on Wednesday. Ursuline put up eight runs in the failed comeback. Jonah Kirchner, Drew Kirila, Jack Ericson, Kirchner, Joey Carosella, and Brady Shannon all came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

Salem earned the victory despite allowing Ursuline to score seven runs in the seventh inning. Kirila, Ericson, Kirchner, Carosella, Shannon, and Ian Barton each drove in runs during the inning.

In the first inning, Ursuline got their offense started when Barton singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

After the Quakers scored one run in the top of the fourth, Ursuline answered with one of their own. Salem scored when Lane Rhodes singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Ursuline then answered when Gavin Wilms induced Kirchner to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

The Quakers pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Rhodes tripled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, Jackson Johnson singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, and Nick Coletta drew a walk, scoring one run.

Salem tallied six runs in the fifth inning. Rhodes, Wilms, Johnson, Brock Young, and Preston Markovich all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Wilms toed the rubber for Salem. The pitcher went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one.

Tre Ciavarella was on the mound for Ursuline. The bulldog allowed one hit and one run over two innings, striking out two. Barton, Danny Smith, and Ericson each contributed in relief for Ursuline.

Salem tallied ten hits in the game. Young, Darius Beck, Coletta, and Rhodes all had multiple hits. Young led them with three hits in four at bats.

Ursuline tallied eight hits on the day. Dante Walker, Kirila, and Barton all collected multiple hits. Walker went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead.
