SALEM FALLS IN HEARTBREAKER

ALLIANCE, OH- Just like most every game for this year’s Salem football team has Friday Night at Alliance came down to the last minute with the Quakers, unfortunately, coming up short for the 2nd week in a row by a score of 24-20.

Unlike week 6 against Marlington where the Quaker offense was unable to move the football for 3 quarters, against the Aviators, the offense was successful in gaining yards, but couldn’t finish drives and turn them into points. 2 first-half turnovers, as well as a TO on downs inside the Alliance 3 yes line, kept the Quakers scoreless at halftime, trailing 10-0.

Alliance opened the scoring in the 2nd half and put Salem in a 17-0 hole until late in the 3rd. The Quakers were able to break through on a 9-yard TD pass from Niko Walter Jax Booth making it 17-6 going into the 4th.

The Aviators would make it 24-6 midway through the 4th until the Quaker offense erupted for 2 quick scores in less than 2 minutes to cut the lead to 24-20 with 2 minutes left on the clock. Salem recovered the onside kick and got down all the way to the Alliance 27 before stalling and turning the ball over on downs, allowing Alliance to hold on to win.

Salem (5-2, 2-2) returns home to Sebo Stadium for their final 3 weeks of the season where next week they will host the Minerva Lions. Listen to the call on YSNLive.com/Salem or through the YSNLive app. Kick-off is 7:00.
