SCRAPPERS DROP FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON

NILES, OH- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers lost their first home game of the season in the series opener against the Trenton Thunder. Mahoning Valley had a late lead, but Trenton rallied back for a comeback win.

The Scrappers had the first lead of the ballgame after a lead-off single by Buck Anderson, and an RBI by Bobby Sparling. Trenton answered with two runs in the second with a 2 RBI single by Johnny Weaver to take a 2-1 lead. The Scrappers took the lead scoring 3 consecutive runs on wild pitches in the 3rd, 6th, and 7th innings to take a 4-2 lead.

Trenton tied the ballgame up in the eight inning on a 2-run home run by catcher Andrew Cossetti. The Thunder then scored 2 more runs in the top of the ninth inning on a 2 RBI single by E.J. Exposito to take a 6-4 lead. Trenton closer Ronaldo Fernandez slammed the door in the ninth inning, striking out the side in order to win the series opener 6-4.
