South Range didn’t come in to Thursday night’s district championship as the top seed, but they left victorious as they took down top seeded Rootstown, 5-1
In the first inning, South Range got their offense started. Mike Perry singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
Brandon Mikos earned the win for the Raiders. The righthander allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking one. His 12 strikeouts helped him break Jake Gehring’s record of strike outs in a season. Mikos now sits at a total of 104. The record was 100.
South Range collected 11 hits on the day. Aidan English, Perry, Shane Lindstrom, Corey Penick, and Trey Pancake all had multiple hits. Pancake, Penick, Lindstrom, Perry, and English each managed two hits to lead.
Rootstown saw the ball well today, racking up five hits in the game.
