SOUTHERN KEEPS THEIR TOURNAMENT RUN GOING

DALTON OH- Southern kept their playoff hopes alive with a solid 5-1 victory over Chalker this Monday. They really turned things up in the fourth inning, capitalizing on an error to score a run, followed by Destiny Huffman ripping a two-run triple, and Alexis Ensinger adding a single to bring another run across.

In the circle, Gabby Hromada pitched for Chalker, enduring a tough outing where she gave up 12 hits and five runs, although she managed to strike out eight. Meanwhile, Rylee Hawkens started off strong for Southern, throwing a hitless and scoreless inning with a couple of strikeouts.

At the plate, Gabby Nieves went 2-for-4 to lead Southern, driving in a run, while Kelsey Kren got on base twice for Chalker with walks, showcasing some good plate discipline. Southern’s lineup was seeing the ball well all game, earning six walks in total.

Southern’s hitters were on their game, notching 12 hits by the time the game was over. Huffman was clutch from the eighth spot, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Cheyenne Buzzard led the charge with three hits. Gianna Pecorelli and McKenna Jones also had multiple hits, helping to keep the innings alive. Defensively, they were flawless, with Pecorelli getting involved in 17 plays without a hitch.

With this win, Southern is set to face Mogadore in the District Championship game this Wednesday at Dalton High School. First pitch is at 5:00 PM.
