SPARTANS BREAK LOOSE IN HUBBARD

HUBBARD, OH- The Boardman Spartans weathered a scare by the Hubbard Eagles in the sixth inning where Boardman coughed up three runs, but the Spartans still won 9-4 on Friday.

The offensive onslaught by Hubbard was led by Haleigh Taylor and Alyssa Gregory, who all drove in runs.

Boardman racked up 14 hits on the day as Ava Freeborough, Alex Ward, Natalie Davis, and Jurus all managed multiple hits.  Freeborough led the Spartans with three hits in four at bats.

Boardman got on the board in the second inning when they scored one run when Sophia Rivera singled. The Spartans added three runs in the fifth inning as Cami Goske, Rivera, and Laci Jurus each drove in runs during the inning.

Davis was the winning pitcher in the circle as she allowed eight hits and four runs over five and a third innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Gabi Sferra threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Hubbard tallied ten hits as they were led by Phoebe Rusnak, Jillian Palumbo, and Lauren Komorek as they each had multiple hits. Rusnak went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Hubbard in hits.

Kaylee Schultz took the loss for Hubbard as she Schultz went five innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and striking out two. Boardman will take on West Branch on Saturday at 1:00 pm while Hubbard will play Springfield at home on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
