SPARTANS LAY SIEGE TO HOWLAND

WARREN OH-  Boardman grabbed an early lead on its way to a 10-2 victory over Howland on Monday. Boardman scored on a single by Anthony Butto in the first inning.

The Spartans secured the victory thanks to six runs in the seventh inning. The Boardman offense in the inning was led by Luke Lenord, Seth Cervello, Griffin Widrig, Jason Triveri, and Butto, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Howland knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning. An error scored one run.

After Boardman scored one run in the top of the sixth, Howland answered with one of their own. Boardman scored when Cervello singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Howland then answered when RJ Hooper grounded out, scoring one run.

Boardman pulled away for good with one run in the second inning. In the second Cervello reached on a dropped third strike.

The Spartans scored six runs in the seventh inning. Their offense in the inning came from walks by Cervello, Widrig, and Triveri, a single by Butto, and a double by Lenord.

Gavin Hyde got the start for Boardman. Hyde allowed four hits and two runs over six innings, striking out five.

Braden Gebhardt led things off on the mound for Howland. He allowed nine hits and four runs over six innings, striking out ten and walking one.

Boardman tallied 11 hits in the game. Stephen Conti and Butto all collected multiple hits. Conti went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits.
