SPARTANS SMASH STATE RANKED WALSH

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman broke things wide open in the fifth and never looked back, shutting out Walsh Jesuit 7-0 on Wednesday.

It was a quiet game early, but the Spartans exploded in the fifth for six big runs. A couple fielder’s choices helped plate two, then Gabi Sferra smacked a double to drive one in, Kenzie Cherne followed with an RBI single, and Tori Strines capped it off with a knock that brought in two more.

Sferra was lights out in the circle. She tossed a complete game three-hitter, kept Walsh off the scoreboard, struck out five, and walked just two. She had full command from first pitch to last.

Strines did damage at the plate too, going 2-for-4 and driving in a pair. Boardman only needed seven hits to put up seven runs thanks to clutch contact and solid discipline—drawing five free passes, with Cherne and Addie Rudge each working two. The Spartans were sharp on defense, turning a double play and playing clean all night with zero errors.

Next up, Boardman heads to Gilmour Academy on Thursday to keep the momentum rolling.
