SPRINGFIELD DUSTS OFF DEVILS

Springfield defeated Memorial 22-0 on Saturday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Madi Lesnak induced a groundout from Clary Angelies Velazquez to finish off the game.

Lesnak led Springfield to victory by driving in four runs. Lesnak went 3-for-3 at the plate. She drove in runs on a double in the first, a single in the second, a single in the second, and a walk in the second.

The Tigers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Haleigh McCalla drew a walk, scoring one run.

Springfield tallied 16 runs in the second inning. Lesnak, Hannah Leipply, Gianna Piccuta, Abby Joseph, Lesnak, and Rachel Malatok each drove in runs during the inning.

A single by Maria Koullias in the first inning was a positive for Memorial.

Joseph got the start for Springfield. The hurler lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out six and walking zero.

Adrianna Candella was in the pitcher’s circle for Memorial. Candella surrendered 22 runs on 12 hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one. Elish threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Tigers collected 14 hits on the day. Joseph, Lesnak, Carlee Bacon, and Malatok each racked up multiple hits. Joseph went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead in hits.

Koullias led Memorial with one hit in two at bats.
