SPRINGFIELD IMPRESSES IN MVAC OPENER

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- Springfield scored five runs in the second inning on its way to a 9-1 victory over Jackson-Milton on Tuesday. Their big bats were led by Rachel Malatok, Madi Lesnak, and Jacey Mullen, all driving in runs in the inning.

The Tigers fired up the offense in the first inning, when Hannah Leipply drew a walk, scoring one run.

Lesnak got the win in the circle for the Tigers. The ace lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and one run while striking out 11.

Macayle Thornhill started the game for Jackson-Milton. She went six innings, allowing nine runs on 14 hits and striking out nine.

Springfield blasted one home run on the day. Lesnak went yard in the second inning.

Springfield racked up 14 hits on the day. Emily Gerthung, Mullen, Malatok, Hannah Stoufer, and Gianna Piccuta each collected multiple hits. Mullen and Gerthung each collected three hits to lead the way.

Jackson-Milton scattered seven hits in the game. Paige Grope and Thornhill both managed multiple hits.

Springfield will move on to host Liberty on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12:00.  Jackson Milton will be at home on Wednesday facing off with Southeast. First pitch scheduled for 5:00.
