SPRINGFIELD PICKS UP A PAIR OF WINS IN DOUBLE HEADER

STRUTHERS, OHIO- 

Game 1:

Mineral Ridge fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 3-1 loss to Springfield in game one of a double-header on Tuesday.

The Tigers got started early and took the lead on an error in the first inning. The pitching was strong on both side as Springifield pitchers struck out seven, while Mineral Ridge sat down four. The Rams opened up scoring in the first inning, when Xavier Klamer grounded into a double play, scoring one run.

Gino Novello went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the Rams in hits, while Kolten Ruark led Springfield Tigers with two hits in three at bats.

Braden Butler led things off on the hill for Tigers and lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven. Klamer started the game for the Rams and lasted six innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out four. Game two of the double-header started at 7:05 p.m. 

GAME 2:

Mineral Ridge fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-2 loss to Springfield in game two of the double-header as the Rams struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Tigers.

Springfield had its big inning at the plate when they scored seven runs in the second inning as they were led by Seandelle Gardner, Ryan Matey, Braden Butler, Kolten Ruark, Vincent Woods, and Jackson Ensley, who all drove in runs in the inning.

Gardner also led the Tigers to victory on the hill as he surrendered two runs on three hits over three innings, striking out one before Noah Troggio threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Michael Frey, AJ Sandy, Xavier Klamer, and Gino Novello each collected one hit to lead the Rams at the plate.

Jack Gillie led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the Rams as the bulldog allowed four hits and seven runs over one inning. Gavin Fox and Justin Barker entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one inning respectively.

The Rams will try and get back on the winning side of things when they take on Jackson-Milton on Thursday. Springfield will take on Western Reserve on Monday.
