SPRINGFIELD PUTS THE EAGLES DOWN

HUBBARD OH- Springfield nabbed the lead late in the game in a 15-4 victory over Hubbard on Thursday. The game was tied at four with Springfield  batting in the top of the fifth when AJ Stallsmith homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Stallsmith led the Tigers to victory by driving in four runs. Stallsmith went 3-for-5 at the plate. Stallsmith drove in runs on a home run in the fifth and a single in the sixth.

Springfield got on the board in the second inning. Braden Butler drove in two when Butler singled.

Hubbard knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Andrew Kali singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Springfield tallied six runs in the sixth inning. Stallsmith, Alex Rothwell, and Kolten Ruark all drove in runs in the frame.

Butler took the win for the Tigers. The pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, walking one. Ruark and Stallsmith entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Keegan Balla took the loss for Hubbard. The pitcher surrendered six runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out two.

Rothwell started the game for Springfield. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over one and one-third innings, striking out one

The Tigers saw the ball well today, racking up 16 hits in the game. Butler, Aaron Groner, Stallsmith, and Rothwell each managed multiple hits. Butler went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead in hits. Springfield was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Rothwell made the most plays with nine.

Gabe Rusnak led Hubbard with two hits in four at bats.
