SPRINGFIELD SEPARATES THEMSELVES

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OHIO – Good teams find ways to separate themselves during a close game to snatch a victory. Springfield did that Friday night as they rallied late to knock off Campbell Memorial 7-3.

The ballgame was all knotted up at three going into the bottom of the fifth, and that was where the Springfield offense asserted itself on a Haleigh McCalla two-run homerun. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Springfield added two more insurance runs to make the score 7-3 and close out the game in the top of the seventh inning. McCalla and Madison Lesnak each led Springfield with multi-hit efforts.

McCalla went 3-for-4 at the dish and also pitched the distance for Springfield, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out 13 batters.

Springfield will look to make it two in a row Saturday afternoon with a day game against Hubbard at 1:00 p.m.
