BIRDSOF PREY; CANFIELD PUNCHES TICKET TO REGIONAL FINAL

CANTON, OH- Canfield came out swinging and never cooled off, steamrolling Hubbard 10-2 Tuesday night at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium in a complete team effort.

David Murphy led the offensive explosion with a perfect 3-for-3 day, stacking up two singles and a double while driving in runs and scoring once himself. Murphy got the party started in the top of the first with a single down the left field line, part of a five-run outburst that stunned the Eagles early. Dylan Mancini kicked off the scoring with a sharp RBI single to right, followed by a laser double down the line from Zain Jadallah, and a hard-hit RBI single up the middle by Ryan Weibling. Tanner Stricko capped the frame by driving in a run on a fielder’s choice.

Canfield stayed aggressive in the second. Murphy collected his second hit of the night—another RBI single—pushing the lead to 7-0 and knocking Hubbard starter Gabe Rusnak out of rhythm. Rusnak lasted just two innings, giving up seven earned on nine hits.

The Cardinals weren’t done, though. In the fourth, Murphy roped a double to the warning track, setting the table for more insurance runs. Groner, Jadallah, and Mancini also came through with timely knocks, stretching the lead even further. Groner helped himself with a 3-hit night at the plate and took care of business on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings of strong ball. The southpaw struck out six, walked one, and allowed just five hits with no earned runs. Jadallah came out of the pen to shut the door.

Canfield’s offense was relentless—15 hits top to bottom with five guys collecting multiple knocks. Alongside Murphy and Groner’s 3-hit performances, both Mancini and Jadallah added two hits apiece. Joey Gabriel also chipped in with a pair of base knocks.

Hubbard found a couple of bright spots late. Kyle Barr and Braydon Songer each picked up an RBI, and five different Eagles registered hits. Defensively, Hubbard played clean baseball with no errors, and catcher Johnny Reyes kept things steady behind the plate with a team-high five fielding chances.

Still, the Eagles never recovered from Canfield’s early barrage. The Cardinals dictated the pace, capitalized on nearly every scoring opportunity, and rode a dominant outing from Groner to cruise to a double-digit win.

COWBOYS RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET WITH WIN OVER RED DEVILS

STRUTHERS, OH- The Campbell Memorial Red Devils couldn’t hang onto a mid-game lead and fell 16-12 to Chaney on Thursday in a wild, back-and-forth battle.

Memorial jumped out early, building a 5-1 lead after three innings thanks to heads-up base running and timely situational hitting. A wild pitch in the first got them on the board, followed by runs from Josue Rodriguez and Malik Young in the second, and another wild pitch in the third.

But the Red Devils couldn’t hold off the surge.

Chaney rallied in the fourth, stringing together hit-by-pitches, singles, and productive outs to pull ahead 6-5. Campbell punched right back, reclaiming a 7-6 lead in the bottom half with a Jared Colon RBI double and another run-scoring groundout by Young.

Then came the game-breaker.

Chaney exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning—without recording a single hit. Memorial’s pitchers issued walks, hit batters, and struggled to stop the bleeding as Chaney flipped the game on its head and stormed to a 14-7 advantage. Despite a late push from the Red Devils, the Cowboys held on for the win.

Pano Kolidakis started on the mound for Memorial, allowing six runs on six hits across four innings while striking out nine. Wilson earned the win for Chaney with two innings of relief, giving up just one hit and one run while fanning four.

Offensively, Malik Young led the Red Devils with 3 RBIs and went 1-for-3 with two walks and a pair of stolen bases. Colon and Kolidakis each had two hits, and Campbell showed patience at the plate with 11 team walks, including two each from Young, Bobby Ramirez, and Keyshawn Spires. The Red Devils also swiped five stolen bases and turned a double play defensively.

Chaney’s Johnson and Davis each drove in three runs to power the offense, while Moon chipped in two hits and Nomma drew four walks. The Cowboys were relentless on the bases, racking up seven stolen bases and matching Memorial’s defensive double play with one of their own.

The Red Devils will look to bounce back quickly as they host Champion on Friday.

RED KNIGHTS LANCE LISBON

TORONTO, OH — A seven-run first inning set the tone for Toronto on Tuesday as they cruised to a 13-0 win over the Lisbon Blue Devils in a five-inning shutout.

Toronto wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard. Two early defensive miscues by the Blue Devils opened the floodgates before C. Heckathorn ripped a two-run double, C. Barcus followed with an RBI single, and C. McGrath capped the inning with a two-run single to make it 7-0.

The Red Knights kept their foot on the gas, adding three more in the second with RBI hits from L. Wiseman, T. Newbold, and D. Bouscher. In the third, McGrath notched another RBI with a single, and A. Filby was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Toronto’s final run.

Bouscher earned the win on the hill, tossing 3.1 innings of shutout baseball while allowing just one hit, striking out four, and working around seven walks. Despite the free passes, Toronto’s defense held strong, turning a double play to help shut down any scoring threats.

McGrath led Toronto’s 12-hit attack, going 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot. Filby and Wiseman also had multi-hit games as the Red Knights improved to 2-0 on the young season.

For Lisbon, Brady Carpenter and Nick Peruchetti each recorded a hit, while Bryce Esarey showed discipline at the plate with two walks. As a team, the Blue Devils drew seven walks but couldn’t find the timely hit to break through.

Lisbon will look to regroup when they host Southern on Wednesday.

EAGLES FALL TO ALLIANCE AFTER RALLY

ALLIANCE, OH — The Warren JFK Eagles struck early but couldn’t hold off a steady Alliance offense, falling 6-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

JFK got on the board in the top of the first with a pair of runs—one scoring on a wild pitch, and the other coming across as Lucas Mealy tagged up and scored. But that early 2-0 lead didn’t last long.

Alliance responded in the second inning, taking the lead for good behind a clutch two-run double from Blackwell, who finished 3-for-3 at the plate and drove the momentum for the Aviators. Alliance added insurance runs later, and never looked back.

Taggart Carfagnia took the loss for JFK, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing four runs on four hits, while striking out three and walking five. Davis earned the win for Alliance, going four innings and striking out seven while giving up just three hits and two runs.

Mealy and Carfagnia both collected two hits to lead the Eagles’ offense, while Michael Bartoe added a hit and an RBI. But JFK couldn’t cash in on their opportunities, stranding several runners throughout the game.

Alliance played clean defensively, committing zero errors behind Davis. Schrader led the way with eight putouts.

JFK (Warren John F. Kennedy Catholic) will look to bounce back on Wednesday in a matchup against Cardinal Mooney.
