WARRIORS GET FIRST WIN INSIDE EBC

ALLIANCE OH- West Branch started their journey to fight for an EBC crown on Wednesday as they traveled to Alliance to take on the Aviators. They lead the whole way and roll to a 57-38 win.

Sophie Gregory led the Warriors with an impressive 25 point performance. Livvie Showalter was also in double figures adding a solid 18 points to the Warrior cause.

West Branch will stay in EBC play on Saturday as they host Carrollton.

WARRIORS RUN WILD IN ALLIANCE

ALLIANCE OH- The Aviators had already pulled off a major upset once this season, beating Salem in overtime. West Branch refused to be a second victim though as they ran away with a 50-27 victory.

Dru DeShields was just phenomenal. He went 8/16 with 186 yards and a touchdown through the air. He also went for 251 yards on the ground on 12 carries, and 3 touchdowns. Steven Marra had 14 touches for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. He also caught a touchdown pass from DeShields.

West Branch remains undefeated at 8-0 and will move on to play Minerva at home on Friday. They can clinch at least a share of an EBC championship with a win.

QUAKERS ON THE WRONG END OF EXCITING FINISH

ALLIANCE OH- After getting off to a hot start on Friday night, the Salem offense was slowed by turnovers and stalled drives for the remainder of the evening, suffering their first loss of the year 27-21 in OT at Alliance. It was Salem’s first overtime game since 2009.

The Quakers jumped out to a 14-0 lead 7 minutes into the game, but were unable to find the end zone again until the 4th quarter. Alliance took advantage of three Salem turnovers (2 INT, 1 fumble), two of which ended drives in the red zone. Salem was 2-6 for the night inside the 20 yard line.

On a more positive note, albeit in defeat, Sophomore Dominic Maniscalco had a career night, rushing for over 100 yards and a score for Salem.

Salem (4-1, 0-1 in EBC play) will host Minerva next week at Sebo Stadium.

NILES SQUEEZES PAST AVIATORS

ALLIANCE OH- Niles Mckinley traveled to Alliance to face the Aviators in what turned out to be a game of will between the two teams. A heavy defensive game ensued for most the contest with the Red Dragons able to come away the victors. Niles wins 19-16.

Niles Mckinley’s Gardner led the team in rushing with 185 yards rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Hrosar went 8/12 with 139 yards passing for the Red Dragons. A critical fumble recovery by Niles defender Bittner became critical in the close game.

Alliance’s quarterback Zurbrugg lead the Aviator offense all night with 89 yards rushing going 16/26 125 yards passing. Zurbrugg’s performance helped Davis achieve two rushing touchdowns but the Red Dragons would outlast the Aviators. Niles wins 19-16. Niles (1-1) will host Youngstown East (1-1) next week. WEST BRANCH ENDS AVIATORS FLIGHT PLAN

BELOIT OH- The West Branch boys golf team defeated Alliance 168-186 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Leading the Warriors to victory were Reed Williams 38, Jaxon Robb 42, Landon Wilson 44, Brant Allison 44, Christian Starcher 45, Westley Daley 45.

The Warriors will be back at it tomorrow against the league leading Carrollton Warriors at The Flying B.

SALEM WALKS OFF AVIATORS TO WIN 6TH STRAIGHT

SALEM OH-

Salem took their game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off double at the end of the game to topple Alliance. The game was tied at ten with Salem batting in the bottom of the ninth when Blaize Exline doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Salem collected 14 hits and Alliance had nine.

The Quakers took an early lead in the second inning. Lane Rhodes drove in three when Rhodes homered.

Salem evened things up at ten in the bottom of the eighth inning. They scored one run when Jackson Johnson singled.

The Quakers put up five runs in the second inning. Carson Rhodes, Exline, and Rhodes each drove in runs during the inning.

Gavin Wilms got the start for Salem. The righthander lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and seven runs while striking out six.

Haynes led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Alliance. The hurler allowed ten hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out five. Bennett threw two and a third innings in relief.

Salem socked one home run on the day. Rhodes put one out in the second inning.

The Quakers had 14 hits in the game. Exline, Darius Beck, Nick Coletta, and Rhodes each managed multiple hits. Beck and Exline each collected three hits to lead.

QUAKERS WIN EBC PITCHERS DUEL

ALLIANCE, OH- Both teams were strong on the hill Tuesday, but Salem defeated Alliance 2-1. Lane Rhodes allowed just seven hits to Alliance.

Rhodes earned the win for Salem. Lane surrendered one run on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Young took the loss for Alliance. The pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one.  Gavin Bruni started the game for Alliance. Bruni lasted five innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out eight.  This is his second no-decision while giving up no hits to the opposition.

Blaize ExlineJackson Johnson, and Gavin Wilms each managed one hit to lead Salem.

Alliance racked up seven hits in the game. Bates and R Bruni all managed multiple hits for Alliance. Bates went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Alliance in hits.

The two EBC foes will square off again on Wednesday at 5pm on Your Sports Network.

SALEM CLINCHES A SHARE

SALEM OH- The Salem Lady Quakers claimed a share of the EBC title as they knocked off the visiting Alliance Aviators 61-36 in girls hoops action. The Quakers are co-champs of the league along with Marlington. Salem jumped out to a 20-6 1st quarter advantage and never looked back as coach Sarah Hamilton played all 14 girls though-out the contest.

Krista Barley put up a game high 18 points while Kyla Jamison netted 11 points for Salem.

Next up for the Lady Quakers is a semi-final  division district II match up with Kenston on Wednesday evening in Salem.

DESHIELDS EARNS 300TH WIN AS WARRIORS ADVANCE

BELOIT OH- West Branch Head coach Walt DeShields captured his 300 career win as his Lady Warriors rolled over the visiting Alliance Aviators 54-11 in girls Division II tournament play.

10 Lady Warriors put their names in the score book with Sophie Gregory leading the way with 12 points and teammate Sydney Mercer netting 11 points.

West Branch will move on and face the Dukes of Marlinton next Wednesday in a District Semifinal match-up.

WARRIORS FLY HIGH OVER ALLIANCE

BELOIT OH- Jaxon Hendershott dropped in 5 three-pointers for a game high 17 points to help the West Branch Warriors take down the Alliance Aviators 53-37 win.The Warriors improved to 10-3 on the season.

Dru DeShields added 10 points and Jed Smith had 8 points. Alliance put up 18 1st quarter points but could only score 19 points in the final 3 periods. West Branch will play Cardinal Mooney at home next Saturday.
