WHITING SWEEPS ASTRO FALCONS

STRUTHERS OH- Whiting Roll-Offs may have lost first place in the Livi division in the last weekend of the regular season, but that didn’t stop them from coming into the playoffs strong. With back to back wins Whiting clinched a sweep of Astro Falcons to punch their ticket to the championship series. They beat the Falcons 8-7 in Game 2.

Ben Miller came up clutch at the plate for Whiting. He went 2-5 with 3 RBI.  Corbin Sevcik also went 2-5 on the day and knocked in 1 RBI.  Nick Parrotto went 1-4 on the day scored 2 runs, and hit in a RBI.  Owen Keister also went 1-4 with a walk and a RBI.

Keister got the win on the mound for Whiting. He went 5 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits. He struck out a pair.

Evan Tice had a great day at the fish in the losing effort. He had multiple hits going 2-5 with 2 RBI.  Hayden Warmouth had a pair of RBI as well on a 1-2 day.

Jacob Hayes pitched the bulk of the work for Astro. He went 5 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.  He sent 5 hitters back to the dugout with a K.

FALCONS EXPLODE IN EXTRA’S TO BEAT DURA EDGE

STRUTHERS, OH-The top 2 teams in the 16U Hernandez Division met on Tuesday night at Bob Cene Park. Dura Edge and Astro battled back and forth the entire way, but the Falcons overcame an early deficit to win it in extra frames.

Dura Edge took the first lead after a sacrifice fly from Paul Gubba to make it 1-0 in the fourth inning. The Astro Falcons were held scoreless through 5 innings, until Jake Schneider took the lead with a 2 RBI triple into right center. The Falcons had a slim 1 run lead in the seventh inning, until a 2 out error in the last inning scored the game tying run from second base.

The knight cap also went into extra innings, and the Astro Falcons scored 4 runs to build a cushion. In the eight, Drew Kaschak had the go-ahead RBI single, followed by a 2 RBI base knock by Jay Wrona. Astro would allow one run in the bottom of the eight frame, but held on to a 6-3 victory. Astro improves to 14-4, while Dura Edge drops to 8-10.

WHITING SHOCKS THE FALCONS

STRUTHERS OH- Astro Falcons 18U squad in Class B Baseball has been near unbeatable this summer. However, Whiting Roll-Offs however came in to Friday night unfazed and unintimidated by the task at hand.  2 runs in the top of the 7th gave them a 5-4 upset win over the Falcons.

Nick Kingerski went 1-3 on the day for Whiting, with a RBI.  Ryan Telesz drew a walk for the offense, and also collected a RBI. Nick Vitale went 1-4 with a run scored.

Marc Conti got the win on the hill for Whiting. He pitched 4 innings and gave up 0 runs on just 2 hits.  He struck out 4 batters, and as a team Whitibg struck out 7.

Elijah Dunn swung a solid stick for the Falcons in a losing effort. He went 2-3 on the day with 2 RBI and 1 run scored.  Ty Stecko also grabbed a RBI on a 1-2 effort. He walked and scored a run as well.  Joe Roth walked twice and scored a run.

Jake Awenowicz took the loss on the mound. The two runs scored against him were unearned. He struck out a pair.

FALCONS SOAR OVER DURA EDGE

STRUTHERS OH- It wasn’t much of a contest between Astro Falcons and Dura Edge on Tuesday night in 16U action at Bob Cene Park. The Falcons made quick work of the night with a dominating 15-0 victory.

Evan Tice put on a show for the high powered Falcon offense going 4-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored.  Bo Fornataro went 3-4 on the night with another pair of RBI.  Jacob Hayes was a perfect 2-2 with 2 runs scored, and he added a RBI.  Grason Hooks also had multiple hits going 2-2 with a run scored and a RBI.  Marc Pieto went 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and 2 RBI.

 

Shawn Kristophel was just as impressive on the hill for the Falcons he went 4 innings and gave up 0 runs on 2 hits. He struck out 8 and only walked 1.

Ethan Feezle was never retired going 1-1 with a walk on the day.  Carson Bish also collected a hit on the day going 1-2.  Charlie Young reached base with a walk as well.

HITTING PLUS PITCHING EQUALS ASTROS DOMINATION

STRUTHERS OH- The Astro Falcons played the definition of a complete game on Monday night as they pitched well, and hit their way to a 10-0 mashing of the Prospects.

Mason Sike was the big bat in the Astro lineup. He went 2-3 on the day with a run scored and 3 RBI.  Gavin Miller also managed multiple hits going 2-3 with a RBI.  He also scored 2 runs.  Anthony Miller was never retired on the day as he went 2-2 with a walk and a RBI.

It was Tino Campoli that was their force on the mound. He went the distance throwing all 5 innings and only giving up 2 hits and no runs.  He struck out 3.

Gino Lazzari got a hit for Prospects going 1-2 on the day.  Olindo Pezzone also managed to scrap across a hit on a 1-2 day.

FALCONS GET TESTED BUT FLY PAST DURA EDGE

STRUTHERS, OH- The Astro Falcons stayed atop the standings in the 18U division on Saturday with a win over Dura Edge. The Falcons didn’t have the offensive onslaught per usual, but still flew past Dura Edge.

The Astro Falcons jumped on Dura Edge early and often with a 3 run first inning. Anthony Miller blasted a 2 RBI triple to deep center field to take the first lead. Catcher Aaron Posey drove him in with an RBI ground out. The Falcons scored 2 more runs in the third inning with an RBI single by Clay Wiesen, followed by another RBI from Miller. Dura Edge got on the board in the sixth inning scoring Ryan Gallagher, but then left the bases loaded. The Falcons held on to the 5-1 lead to win the ballgame.

 

Astro stays in first place with a 1.5 game lead over Creekside Fitness. Dura Edge drops to 4th place in the division after the loss. Joe Roth was the winning pitcher in the ballgame, tossing 6 innings and striking out 9 batters. Roth is now 3-1 on the campaign. Both teams play on Monday at Bob Cene Park. FALCONS TAKE TOP SPOT IN HERNANDEZ DIVISION

STRUTHERS, OH- The Astro Falcons and Dura Edge battled for the top seed in the 16U Hernandez division on Saturday afternoon. Dura Edge carried a slim lead the entire way, until the Falcons put a rally together in the sixth inning to take the lead and win the ballgame.

Dura Edge took advantage of 2 walks in the first inning, scoring both runners off an RBI single by Ethan Feezle, followed by an RBI double by Mathew Boccieri. The Astro Falcons came back to score 1 run in the bottom of the second inning to make it 2-1. Dura Edge had the lead all the way up to the sixth inning, where the Falcons put up a 3 spot to take the lead. Anthony Triveri tied the ballgame with an RBI single, followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Bo Fornataro and Sam Castronova to take a 4-2 lead. Relief pitcher Dom Cubellis sealed the deal in the seventh inning, to pick up his first victory of the season.

The Falcons improve to 7-4 on the campaign, and slide into first place in the Hernandez Division. Astro returns to action on Sunday against the Prospects at 11:30 A.M. Dura Edge will have to forget about the loss, as they play the Athletix in a double header on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. You can catch the live broadcast on YSNLive.com.

ASTRO FALCONS KEEP THEIR FOOT ON THE GAS

STRUTHERS OH- The first place Astro Falcons completely flexed their muscles on Friday night dominating their way to a 10-0 victory over Athletix.

Tino Campoli led the charge for the Falcons bar going 2-3 with 2 RBI.  Ben Slanker was perfect at the plate going 2-2 scoring 3 runs, and hitting a RBI. Brandon Coughlin also had multiple hits on the day going 2-3 with a run scored, and a RBI.

Landon Beidelschies pitched his way to a victory. He dazzled in his 4 innings of work. He gave up 0 runs on just 1 hit. He struck out 7 batters.

Isaiah Torres got the only hit of the day for Athletix. He went 1-2.  Bayden Pipoly and Alex Nicholson both  drew a walk.

ANDREW SABELLA COACH’S CORNER EPISODE 1

STRUTHERS, OH- Andrew Sabella is the head coach for the 16U Astro Falcons in the Youngstown Class B League. Sabella also is a part of the staff as an assistant for the Canfield Cardinals baseball team. Sabella sat down to talk about his 16U Astro Falcons team, his head coaching duties, and managing a heavy workload in his young career.

The 16U Astro Falcons currently sit in first place in the Hernandez Division at 6-4. Sabella talks about the development of his players and the goals for the program. Catch the full interview with Andrew Sabella down below.

FALCONS DOMINATE TO KEEP FIRST PLACE

STRUTHERS OH- There was a lot on the line on Wednesday night in Cene Park. The first place spot in Class B 18U baseball was up for grabs as the Astro Falcons came in trailing Creekside Fitness by a half game. The Falcons took total control of first place in a dominating 10-0 victory.

Anthony Miller led the Falcons offense going 2-3 with 4 RBI.  Eric Sungren knocked in a pair of runs on a 1-3 day. He also scored a run. Ben Slanker had multiple hits going 2-3 with 2 runs scored.  Clay Wiesen put together a solid day going 2-3 with 3 runs scored.

Jordan Kolenda kept Creekside’s offense in check pitching the complete game and giving up 0 runs on 3 hits.  He struck out 10 hitters.

Braden Ziegler and Tyler Kamerer both went 1-2 for the Creekside offense.  Collin Marinpetro reached every time he came to the plate going 1-1 with a walk.

Zach Luciano took the loss on the mound for Creekside.  Only 1 run he gave up was earned on 7 hits.
