ASTRO FALCON MANAGER DON PLETCHER JOINS RUNNING POINT

EAST PALESTINE OH- The Astro Falcons 18u team did not end the NABF World Series the way the would like. A series of events forced them to forfeit in a quarterfinal game. Since it happened, it has been a widely discussed topic in the local baseball scene. Astro manager Don Pletcher took the time to call in to YSN’s Running Point to clear up any speculation on what happened with his first hand account. Don also takes the time to reflect on the NABF weekend as a whole, and what it meant to all the teams to have it after missing it in 2020 due to COVID.

The Brooklyn Bonnie Jays won the 2021 NABF World Series Championship.

The Astros still have plenty of baseball to look forward to this summer. They will play for a spot in the Palomino tournament in Texas. Then they will come back to Bob Cene Park and resume the 18u Class B Playoffs.

OHIO LONGHORNS WIN NABF JUNIOR DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

AUSTINTOWN OH- In the NABF Junior division semifinals, the Astro Falcons beat a Ohio Longhorns team 13-5. They would be stacked up with a separate Longhorns squad in the championship, but couldn’t overcome this challenge. They fell to Longhorns-Piscura 4-0.

Jay Campbell got the start on the mound for the Falcons and started things off with a quick 1-2-3 inning. Tommy Mawby matched that on the hill for the Longhorns throwing a solid 1-2-3 frame. Both pitchers had a no hitter through 3 innings of play.

Ryder Spath broke up Campbell’s perfect game by getting on base in the fourth, and then stole second base. Spath came along to score to break the tie 1-0. Mawby then scored on an error to make it 2-0. The Longhorns continued to score in the inning and Alex Healy’s sac fly made it 4-0 before the inning was over.

That was the end of the scoring as Mawby threw a gem of a game and shutout the Falcons defense. He threw 3 innings of perfection.
