UPSHIRE NAILS DOWN WIN 100; BADGER ROLLS

KINSMAN, OH- It’s been a record year for Badger on multiple fronts already, and on Tuesday, they added another bullet point to their campaign with Coach Josh Upshire getting his 100th career win with a 65-34 win over Chalker.

For Badger, Senior Dunan Moy paced the play with 26 points.  The Braves were supplemented by Jack Harnett and Alton Winchek’s 11 points apiece, along with eight points for Jason Parsons.

Chalker was led on the floor with 18 points by Dan Kellar, and five-point performances from Andrew Kirkland and Tanner Kelson.

Badger improves to 8-3, while Chalker falls to 2-7 on the campaign.

 

EAGLES SHOW THEIR MUSCLES

WARREN OH- On their last day of winter break, Warren JFK showcased their basketball prowess with a spectacular showing against Badger, controlling the entire game and cruising to a commanding 78-41 win. The Eagles’ well-rounded performance highlighted their strength on both ends of the court.

Warren JFK’s scoring was led by Michael Condoleon, who contributed an impressive 21 points, while Nico Ciminero added 18 points, and Nick Ryan and Jaden Rishel each tallied 16 points. The Eagles’ balanced scoring reflected their depth and offensive efficiency.

Badger’s Duncan Moy delivered a standout individual performance, putting up 26 points in a resilient effort.

With this convincing win, Warren JFK improves to an outstanding 9-1 record and will carry their momentum into the next challenge as they travel to face Lake Center Christian on Friday. Badger, now standing at 7-2, faces a tough road test against Bristol in their upcoming matchup.

BADGER BRINGS ALL THEY HAVE TO BROOKFIELD

BROOKFIELD OH- Badger’s girls basketball team brought an abundance of energy from start to finish in a dazzling display on Wednesday, overwhelming Brookfield with a resounding 61-34 victory on the road.

The Braves’ triumph was a collective effort, with standout performances contributing to their impressive win. Leading the charge was Katie Grexa, delivering a remarkable double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Brianna Huscroft added 9 points to the tally, while Gabriella Miller and Anja Suhar each contributed 7 points. Avery Rice and Molly O’Brien rounded out the scoring with 6 points apiece.

Brookfield, though facing a tough challenge, found a standout performer in Cailey Wellman, who led all scorers with an impressive 21-point performance. Mya Jumper contributed 8 points to the team’s total.

With this victory, Badger advances to an 8-1 record and looks ahead to their next matchup against Lordstown on January 4th. Meanwhile, Brookfield (3-6) will seek to bounce back on Saturday with a home game against Champion, aiming to regain momentum and turn the tide in their favor. The game showcased Badger’s dominance and sets the stage for exciting matchups as both teams continue their respective journeys in the girls’ basketball season.

BADGER REFUSES TO GO DOWN

VIENNA OH- In a stunning comeback, Badger showcased resilience on the road against Mathews, overcoming a 14-point deficit to secure a remarkable 78-71 victory. The Braves mounted an impressive surge in the fourth quarter, outscoring their opponents 32-9 to snatch the win from the jaws of defeat.

Leading the charge for Badger was Duncan Moy, who delivered an outstanding performance with 31 points. Notably, this marked the third consecutive game in which Moy surpassed the 30-point mark, highlighting his consistent scoring prowess.

With this thrilling victory, Badger advances to a 3-1 record and returns home on Friday with momentum on their side as they host Pymatuning Valley, eager to build on their impressive early-season form.

RED DEVILS BURN BADGER LATE TO GET VICTORY

KINSMAN, OH- It was a big evening for the Badger Braves on opening night 2023, but Campbell was up to the task with a 69-64 victory to start the season.

For the Campbell Memorial Red Devils, the scoring was led by Josue Rodriguez, who notched an impressive 25 points. David Moore and Aziyah Flores both contributed significantly with 17 points each, while Adyn Vazquez added 5 points. Christos Davis and Teyon Harris Jr. rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 points, respectively. Under the guidance of Coach Nick Canterino, the Red Devils displayed consistent scoring throughout the quarters, putting up 20 points in the first, 13 in the second and third, and 23 in the fourth.

On the Badger Braves’ side, Duncan Moy had a standout performance, contributing 20 points and reaching a significant milestone by scoring the thousandth point of his career with a three-pointer in the first quarter. Preston Geracitano played a strong game on both ends of the floor, finishing with 16 points. Alton Winchek displayed clutch moments throughout the game and ended with 12 points, while freshman Jack Harnett added 11 points. Bryce Gross chipped in with 5 points. The Braves, coached by Josh Upshire, fought hard but ultimately fell short in a closely contested battle.

 

BRAVES BUST OUT FOR FIRST WIN

EAGLES HAVE SOLID HOME DEBUT

WARREN OH- In a triumphant game on Tuesday night, Warren JFK secured their first home win of the season with a solid 66-53 victory over Badger.

Leading the scoring charge for JFK was Ava Darney, who notched an impressive 23 points. Didi Ryan added 17 points, while Marina Sanders and Gianna Pompelia contributed 9 and 8 points, respectively.

On the Badger side, Katie Grexa showcased her scoring prowess with a game-high 24 points, supported by Brianna Huscroft with 11 points and Hannah Betts with 8 points.

Warren JFK will hit the road for their next matchup on Saturday against Champion, looking to build on the momentum from their home win. Badger, on the other hand, will return home for their next game on Thursday against Fairport Harding, aiming to bounce back from the challenging contest.

BADGER BASKETBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOSH UPSHIRE

KINSMAN OH- Badger basketball was one of the most exciting offenses on the YSN family last season.  The high flying nature of the Braves roster left everyone in awe every night.  This year, they still have all the excitement ready to go, and are geared up for a ton of success. Badger may not have the depth that they have hsd, but the players that want to be on the team are willing to put everything they have into bringing this team to new heights.

Coach Josh Upshire is back for another year on the bench. One of the most well respected coaches in the area gives YSN a solid preview in Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Josh Upshire!

BLUE JAYS STUN BADGER IN SECTIONALS

KINGSMAN OH- The Jackson Milton volleyball team entered the sectional tournament as the underdog but made a statement with a remarkable upset win over the 10th seeded Badger. The match was a testament to their determination and skill, which propelled them to victory.

Leading the charge for the Jays was Emma Johns, who played a pivotal role in the team’s success. She showcased her versatility with 14 service points, 3 aces, and 15 assists, orchestrating the offense with precision. Riley Headley made her presence felt with 7 kills, while Alena Len added 6 kills, along with 6 service points, 3 aces, and 7 crucial digs. Grace Johns anchored the team’s defense with an impressive 14 digs.

The win has set the stage for Jackson Milton’s next challenge, as they are scheduled to travel to Canton Central Catholic to face the 6th-seeded Southern Local in the sectional finals. The match is set for Thursday, October 19, with a 7:30 pm start.
