HEADED HOME: COLUMBIANA CLIPPERS BASEBALL PREVIEW

COLUMBIANA, OH –  Head coach Ryan Wolf and the Columbiana Clippers are eagerly awaiting the opening day of high school baseball as the northeast Ohio winter has begun to disappear. YSN was able to catch up with Coach Wolf before one of his practices this week to get a feel for the excitement that surrounds the Clippers baseball program and community. Coach Wolf also discussed the team and who he is leaning on to provide the leadership and strong play this year. Coach was also able to elaborate on what his expectations and goals are for this season as opening day is a week away!

 

HEADED HOME: CHAMPION GOLDEN FLASHES BASEBALL PREVIEW

WARREN, OH – As the weather begins to heat up, the Champion Golden Flashes are doing the same! Head coach Rich Yauger and the Golden Flashes are excited and ready to make another run at an MVAC title and then some! The Golden Flashes are led by a great group of seniors that are all in and are excited to get back on the diamond. Coach Yauger will rely heavily on those seniors to teach the “Champion way” to the underclassmen to continue the success of the program as the season and their careers progress.

HEADED HOME: SEBRING TROJANS BASEBALL PREVIEW

SEBRING, OH – The weather is turning from winter to spring, the fields are getting ready for games, and first year head coach Tyler Whitlatch and the Sebring Trojans are ready to get back on the diamond and play some baseball!

Coach Whitlatch will look to his five seniors for leadership and experience as the rest of the team is very young underclassmen. Coach is looking for Dylan Johnson and Frankie Lozoya to be a 1-2 punch for the Trojans. Coach Whitlatch also discussed how his style of coaching is similar to a college system that he is building based on his time playing for Malone. Not only does Coach Whitlatch want to succeed, he knows that starting with the fundamentals and building a program based on that is key to long term success.

HEADED HOME: LAKEVIEW BULLDOGS BASEBALL PREVIEW

CORTLAND, OH – The Lakeview Bulldogs are led by head coach Mike Johnson. Miami Ohio commit Nick Demonica left handed pitcher looks to help his team on the rubber this year for the bulldogs. Nick is one of the best pitchers in the area. Coach is looking to his upperclassmen to help lead and develop his younger guys. Coach Mike Johnson is looking for big things out of his bulldogs this year, relying on his pitching staff and great defense until his sticks will heat up. Mike Johnson wants to play. well towards the end of the season, but keeping goals with winning the league and district championship.

HEADED HOME: LOWELLVILLE ROCKETS BASEBALL PREVIEW

LOWELLVILLE, OH – The Lowellville Rockets are back in action after a COVID shortened 2020 season and head coach Dan Dougherty and the entire team couldn’t be more excited and eager to get back on the diamond!

Coach Doc will look to Cole Bunofsky, Mike Melillo, and Brandon Simmons to lead the way for Lowellville as they will look to teach the “Rockets way” of baseball to the underclassmen and to ultimately have a chance of winning a district title. Coach Doc wants to “keep ascending” throughout the course of the season and keep building upon their success that comes to reach their goals.

YSN’s own, BIlly McCartney and Quinn Puskar, had the opportunity to chat with Coach Dougherty this week to discuss the team and get a preview about some of the key players who will be making an impact on the field throughout the course of the season, what some of Coach’s expectations are for this season, and to talk about the excitement the Lowellville community has for this season of baseball!

HEADED HOME: POLAND BULLDOGS BASEBALL PREVIEW

POLAND, OH – The head baseball coach for the Poland Bulldogs is Rich Murray. The Bulldogs this year are very young with only 2 players with varsity experience. That being said, Coach Murray explained to us that his kids are very excited to be on the diamond this year. Coach Murray is always shooting high on his goals, same as it always is to win the league and go play for a district championship. That’s been the standard here in Poland for many years.

HEADED HOME: CAMPBELL MEMORIAL RED DEVILS BASEBALL PREVIEW

CAMPBELL, OH – The Campbell Memorial Red Devils are led by head coach, Jeff Jackson, and he’s looking to lean on his seniors to lead his team this year as most of the upperclassmen played summer ball at the famous Bob Cene Park. Coach Jackson expects those players to take that experience to grow and help his team early. Coach is looking to do a lot of teaching this year with the year off due to COVID, as the most important thing is teach them the “Red Devil way.” Coach Jeff Jackson wants his team to be coachable and pay attention to the details, it will go a long way to the Red Devils growth and development.

HEADED HOME: CARDINAL MOONEY CARDINALS BASEBALL PREVIEW

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals are led by head coach Al Franceschelli. Key returning starter for Mooney is Ethan Shaw and standout short stop headed to play at the next level to Gardner Webb after this season. Coach Al talked a little about the  struggle covid and how he is holding practices is very interesting. He calls it POD practices where he splits his team up into outfielders, infielders and pitchers. Mooney has held different times for these POD’s. Coach Al is doing everything he can to keep his players safe and to make sure they get the opportunity to play this year. He also thanked his players, parents and coaches for this stressful time with practices. Hopefully it will pay off for Cardinal Mooney as they have high hopes in winning the steel valley and a long push into the postseason.

HEADED HOME: CHANEY COWBOYS BASEBALL PREVIEW

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The Chaney Cowboys are led by head coach, Eric Gruber. Coach Gruber lost a lot from last year as this year the Cowboys are very young. Coach talked about having a great offseason a year ago and is looking to roll that energy into this season.Eric spoke about going back to basics pitch by pitch mentally. Taking one game at a time with the Cowboys and let his boys grow as the season progressed. Teaching the game of baseball is the most important thing this year for the Chaney Cowboys in Coach Eric Gruber eyes.

HEADED HOME: UNITED GOLDEN EAGLES BASEBALL PREVIEW

HANOVERTON, OH – The United Golden Eagles are led by head coach Bob Manfull. He expects his kids to compete and play hard day in and day out. He also told us that it has been 12 years since the Golden Eagles have won a league championship outright. Although some teams have changed, come and gone, Coach Manfull wants to bring his team to another winning season and compete for a league title. Coach Manfull also talked to us about how difficult it is to win day in and day out. It’s a mentality and it’s his job to get the best out of his players.
