18U: ASTRO FALCONS OVERCOME ERRORS TO BLAST PAST AVALANCHE

STRUTHERS, OH- The Astro Falcons, despite committing five errors, were able to find a way to defeat Avalanche 9-6 Monday night in Class B play.  Chase Franken picked up the win in relief for Astro, giving up just one unearned run in three innings of work.

Zack Nolf got saddled with the loss for Avalanche, allowing all nine runs to touch home.

Burke Camper helped lead the Astro assault with three hits, including a triple and a double while driving in three runs in the game.  Connor Rakow and Josh Hoffman both had two hits, including a double, two RBI and two runs scored in the win for Astro.

Peyton Olinski led the way for Avalanche with two hits, a run, and an RBI.  Damian Airwyke had a hit, a run and an RBI of his own in the game.

14U: MILLER TOSSES NO-NO IN ASTRO WIN

STRUTHERS, OH- Keep the name Anthony Miller on your list of youngsters to follow over the next handful of years.  Anthony Miller was brilliant on the mound on Monday, as he threw a no-hitter to lead the Astro Falcons (20-1) past Roth Brothers (11-11) 10-0.

Astro secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the second inning. The offense in the inning came from singles by Gino LazzariLuca RicchiutiAJ Havrilla, and Jim Campbell, a walk by Dom Fornataro, and a double by Lazzari.

The Falcons opened up scoring in the first inning. Miller drove in one when he doubled.  Astro Falcons scored eight runs in the second inning. The Astro Falcon‘s big bats in the inning were led by singles by LazzariRicchiutiHavrilla, and Campbell, a walk by Fornataro, and a double by Lazzari.

As mentioned, Miller toed the rubber for Astro Falcons. He lasted five innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out ten and walking one.

Richie Preston was on the pitcher’s mound for Roth Brothers. He surrendered ten runs on nine hits over one and two-thirds innings. Matthew Strank threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Astro Falcons tallied 11 hits on the day. Miller and Lazzari all collected multiple hits for AstroLazzari and Miller all had two hits to lead the Dirty Birds.

14U: CERVELLO SMOOTH ON THE MOUND, ASTRO’S RUSH ROTH 8-1

STRUTHERS, OH- The Astro Falcons coasted to an easy victory over Roth Brothers 8-1 on Tuesday.  The Birds notched four runs in the fifth inning as the big bats were led by Luca RicchiutiAnthony MillerSeth Cervello, and Gino Lazzari, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Cervello led things off on the mound for Astro Falcons. He lasted five innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out eight.

Stephen Tarnoci was on the pitcher’s mound for Roth Brothers. He surrendered four runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Keegan Balla and Alex Nicholson entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.

Astro had 12 hits in the game. LazzariRicchiutiBen Slanker, and Cervello each managed multiple hits for the blue and orange. Lazzari led Astro with three hits in four at-bats. Astro  was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Broc Lowry made the most plays with nine.

Nicholson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Roth Brothers in hits. Roth Brothers were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error, either. Richie Preston had the most chances in the field with eight.

YSN TO FEATURE YOUTH BASEBALL TOURNAMENTS BEGINNING THIS WEEKEND

BOARDMAN, OH- Your Sports Network (YSN) will once again be your streaming home to watch District and State coverage of 10U and 12U Youth Baseball.  Last year, Boardman made an incredible run that was cut short of the state title.  This year, several teams from The Valley are hungry to raise the banner at districts and show their talent off at the next level.

YSN will also play home to the 50/70 Tournament July 6-10 from Boardman’s Field of Dreams.  Loveland, Green, and Jefferson will join homestead Boardman in a tournament to see who advances to Kalamazoo, Michigan for Regionals. (See bracket for more details)

CENE MEMORIAL: IRONBIRDS THROW LATE HAYMAKER, WIN BOUT AGAINST ROTH

STRUTHERS, OH- Roth Brothers traded blows with the Midwest Ironbirds for most of the game Saturday night, but the Ironbirds threw the final haymaker, landing eight runs in the top of the seventh to win 17-9.  Ethan Shaw suffered the loss for Roth, yielding seven runs out of the bullpen.  Tommy Doyle allowed just two unearned runs in three innings of relief to secure the win for the Ironbirds.

Jared Orwell led Roth with three hits, three RBI and a run scored.  Asher Patton had a pair of hits, runs, and RBI each in the contest.

Jordan Shaheen led all hitters in the game with four hits for the Ironbirds, including a pair of doubles, driving in four runs and scoring two more of his own.  Ian Ash banged out a triple among his three hits, scored three times and drove in four runs for the Ironbirds.

CENE MEMORIAL: CREEKSIDE UPENDS HIGHLANDS

STRUTHERS, OH- Creekside Fitness hung ten runs on Highlands in the bottom of the second inning to cruise to an 11-0 victory Sunday morning in a continuation game for the Bob Cene Memorial Tournament.  Tyler Hurd pitched three shutout innings to pick up the win for Creekside.  Luke Beer took the loss for Highlands.

Kyle Weitzel helped lead a balanced Creekside attack with two hits, including a two-run triple, and a run scored.  Dylan Gurski slugged two hits, drove in two and scored twice while Brady Hansen had two hits of his own, two runs scored and an RBI.  Nic Ottaviani banged out a pair of hits and scored a run while Hurd helped himself at the plate with a hit, a run, and two RBI.

Mike Magdnec hit a double in the game for Highlands.

LITTLE B: McROBERTS HELPS KNIGHTLINE TAKE TWO FROM AVALANCHE

STRUTHERS, OH- Knightline scored seven times in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead over Avalanche and never look back en route to a 12-6 victory.  Joe Barr tossed five scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.  Timmy West yielded seven runs in just over four innings to suffer the loss for Avalanche.  Matt McRoberts led the way for Knightline with two hits, including a double, a run scored and five RBI.  Brady Dixon slugged a double among his two hits, scored twice and drove in two more while TJ Piroch had a double among his two hits as well, scoring two runs and driving in one more in the contest.  Drew Delgarbino had two hits, a run, and an RBI while Mikey Sciortino added a pair of hits and also scored a run in the Knightline victory.  Pat Hubert led Avalanche with two hits, a run, and an RBI.  Anthony Koulianos hit an RBI double and scored a run in the game.

Knightline was able to sweat out a late Avalanche rally to win their Class b matchup 9-8.  Fletcher Postlewait picked up the win for Knightline, yielding five runs on seven hits in just over four innings of work.  Collin Brainard went the distance in the loss for Avalanche, surrendering all nine runs in the game.  Madden Boehm closed out the game for Knightline to earn the save.  Matt McRoberts helped lead the way for Knightline with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.  TJ Piroch had two hits, a run, and an RBI while Thomas Kling slugged a pair of hits and drove home a run in the game.  Guy Young contributed a hit, a run and an RBI to the winning effort.  Jack Dascenzo banged out two hits for Avalanche, drove in two runs and scored another.  Nicholas Plant and Anthony Koulianos each had two hits and two runs scored in the game.

LITTLE B: HOOPER HAS 3 HITS, EAGLE WEAR STIFLES AVALANCHE

STRUTHERS, OH- Eagle Wear defeated Avalanche by a score of 4-2 in Class b play Friday evening.  Ian Barton pitched a complete game in the win for Eagle Wear, allowing just the two runs on a pair of hits while striking out twelve and walking three.

Jake Pappagallo got saddled with the loss for Avalanche, giving up four runs (only two earned) on three hits in four innings of work, while striking out seven and walking six.

Ryan Hooper led all hitters in the game with three hits, a run and an RBI for Eagle Wear.  Joe Roth drove in a run for Eagle Wear in the win.

Vinny Sciortino hit an RBI single in the contest for Avalanche.

CENE MEMORIAL: SCANDY TOSSES TWO-HITTER, KNIGHTLINE BLANKS ARMOLOY

STRUTHERS, OH- Knightline never let Springfield Armoloy breathe en route to a quick 10-0 victory in just four innings in the Bob Cene Memorial Tournament.  Kris Scandy (South Range) pitched a complete game in the win for Knightline, tossing a two-hit shutout, striking out three and walking only one.

Zach Yaskulka (Poland) led the attack for Knightline with three hits, including a three-run homer and a two-run double, totaling five RBI while also scoring two runs in the game.  Brett Bobin had a pair of hits, an RBI and three runs scored while Kenny Misik (Fitch) and Gabe Faunda (Fitch) each slugged an RBI single in the game.  Pat Coleman (Austintown Fitch) added a hit and a run scored to the winning effort.

Trevor Whalen and Chris Lyle each had a hit in the game for Springfield Armoloy.

STRUTHERS, OH- The Whiting Roll-Offs scored in bunches during the course of their 13-3 victory over the Astro Falcons.  Cameron Williams got the win for Whiting, allowing three runs (only one earned) on six hits in four innings while striking out two and walking only one.  Rocky Kopac was saddled with the loss for Astro, giving up five runs in over three innings pitched.

Cre Calabria helped lead a well-oiled Whiting attack with a pair of hits, including a triple, four RBI and a run scored.  Tyler Kamerer slugged a double among his two hits, scored three times and drove in two runs.  Gavin Mims had two hits of his own, including a double, and scored a run while Caleb Lombardo hit an RBI double and touched home twice in the win.

Dante Walker banged out a pair of doubles for Astro, driving in two and scoring the only other run for his team.
