RED DRAGONS ROLL THE BEAVERS

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH – It was a beautiful Friday night under the stadium lights as the Niles Red Dragons took on the Beaver Local Beavers in a thrilling high school football matchup. Both teams had been preparing for this game for weeks, and the excitement in the air was palpable.

The game began with the Beavers wasting no time making their presence felt. Quarterback Austin Cline took the snap, dropped back, and scanned the field for an open receiver. His eyes locked onto Keaton Heddleston, who had managed to slip behind the Red Dragons defense. With a quick flick of his wrist, Cline launched a perfectly spiraling pass that found Heddleston in stride. Keaton Heddleston raced down the field, and with a burst of speed, he reached the end zone for a 59-yard touchdown. The extra point was good, and Beaver Local took an early 7-0 lead at 10:34 in the first quarter.

The Niles Red Dragons were not to be outdone. They responded with a powerful drive led by their star running back, Anthony Budak. Budak bulldozed his way through the Beavers’ defense, eventually capping the drive with a 3-yard rushing touchdown at 4:11. The Red Dragons’ extra point attempt was no good, but they closed the gap to 7-6.

The Niles Red Dragons quickly struck again. On their next possession, Anthony Budak showcased his versatility by throwing a 34-yard touchdown pass to Kris Hrosae, who made a spectacular catch in the end zone. With the extra point, Niles took a 13-7 lead with 1:40 left in the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged entirely to Niles. Running back Antuan Gardner took over, scoring two rushing touchdowns in quick succession. The first was a 19-yard scamper at 7:44, followed by a 4-yard plunge into the end zone at 6:30. With each touchdown, Niles extended their lead, now ahead 28-7.

The Red Dragons weren’t finished yet. Joseph Smith added his name to the list of Niles scorers with a 15-yard rushing touchdown at 6:07 in the second quarter. The Beaver Local defense struggled to contain the relentless Niles offensive onslaught. With the extra point, Niles took a commanding 35-7 lead.

Just before halftime, Anthony Budak connected with Nathan Coots on a 60-yard bomb, adding another touchdown to Niles’ tally. The Red Dragons went into halftime with a commanding 42-7 lead.

In the third quarter, Antuan Gardner continued to shine, breaking free for a stunning 65-yard rushing touchdown at 10:55. Niles now led 49-7.

The Beaver Local Beavers showed their resilience by scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Brayden Hall punched in a 5-yard rushing touchdown at 1:41, bringing the final score to 49-14 in favor of the Niles Red Dragons.

It was a night of high-scoring action, with the Niles Red Dragons emerging as the dominant force on the field. Their offense, led by Anthony Budak and Antuan Gardner, put on a show for the fans, while the defense held strong against the Beaver Local Beavers. As the final whistle blew, the Red Dragons celebrated their impressive victory, knowing that they had left an indelible mark on the field that night.

 

BEAVERS ARE THE ONES THAT TURN ON THE JETS

BELMONT OH- In a high-octane offensive showdown, Beaver Local surged to a commanding 53-26 victory over Union Local.

The first quarter set the tone as Austin Cline dashed 35 yards for a touchdown, putting Beaver Local on the board at 7-0. Cline continued his aerial assault with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Brock Severs, extending the lead to 13-0. Union Local struck back with Coltyn Carpenter’s electrifying 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, closing the gap to 13-6. However, Cline was relentless, adding another touchdown with a 2-yard run, making it 20-6.

The second quarter witnessed Brody Perzanowski’s 10-yard touchdown run for Union Local, cutting the deficit to 20-12. But Beaver Local responded with Keaton Heddleston hauling in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Cline, increasing the lead to 27-12. The game’s defining moment came when Brock Severs intercepted a pass and dashed 98 yards for a touchdown, extending Beaver Local’s lead to 34-12. Union Local showed resilience with Gannon Kerns catching a 4-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Tomolonis, bringing the score to 34-20.

The third quarter saw no letup in Beaver Local’s offensive prowess, as Cline added a 5-yard touchdown run, making it 41-20. The final quarter began with Heddleston securing a 7-yard touchdown reception, widening the gap to 47-20. Union Local rallied with Brody Perzanowski’s 5-yard touchdown run, reducing the deficit to 47-26. However, Beaver Local had the last word, as Cline powered in with a 5-yard touchdown run, sealing the 53-26 victory.

This game showcased Beaver Local’s dynamic offense, led by Austin Cline’s impressive performance, including both passing and rushing touchdowns. Union Local demonstrated resilience and offensive prowess as well, but Beaver Local’s explosive plays proved to be the difference-maker. The final score reflected a thrilling contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.

BEAVER LOCAL MAKES IT A RED FRIDAY

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a highly anticipated clash between arch-rivals, Beaver Local left no room for doubt as they sprinted to a dominant 55-13 victory over East Liverpool. The game began with a bang as Gavin Wright’s pass was intercepted by Ryan Chafins and returned to East Liverpool’s 2-yard line, setting up the opening score. Austin Cline wasted no time, scoring a 2-yard rushing touchdown just moments later. Cline continued to be a force, adding a 3-yard rushing TD and a 5-yard rushing TD with a successful 2-point conversion on a fake PAT, giving Beaver Local a commanding 22-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Cline displayed his passing skills, connecting with Keaton Heddleston for a 12-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 29-0. East Liverpool found the end zone in the third quarter when Jaymin Haney rushed for a 5-yard TD, but Beaver Local responded emphatically. Austin Cline added a 3-yard rushing TD, and Brock Severs scored a 2-yard rushing TD, pushing the score to 49-7.

East Liverpool managed to score again in the fourth quarter, with Gavin Wright connecting with Quintin Conrad for a 34-yard passing TD. However, Beaver Local had the last word as Zavien Riley threw a 2-yard passing TD to Nicolas McKenzie, sealing the game with a final score of 55-13. Beaver Local’s commanding performance showcased their dominance in this rivalry matchup, leaving no doubt about their football prowess.

POTTERS SWEEP SETS THE STAGE FOR GRAFTON MILESTONE

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- Rivalry week is in full swing in the area as Tuesday night Beaver Local made the trip to Potter Fieldhouse looking for a statement win over their rivals. East Liverpool quickly showed why they are one of the best teams in the area as they dispatched their visitors from the north in straight sets 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 securing their sixth straight victory of the season.

True to form the Potters came out in the 1st set separating themselves early from their rivals. The 2nd set saw the Beavers answer the bell as they raced out to a 10-0 early lead. Following a timeout by head coach Dan McKinstry the blue and white would use their experience and athleticism to pull even and eventually take the 2nd set and never look back the rest of the night. Kiya White would pace East Liverpool with 15 kills, 3 blocks, and 2 aces. Sophomore Ava Green added 8 kills, 2 blocks and teammate Ayla Brown added 5 kills on the night. Kamryn Yanni and Paityn Maize set the table all evening for the offense with 16 and 14 assists respectively. Senior libero Faith Grafton eclipsed the 1000 dig plateau for her career on the night as well.

Beaver Local was led by Peyton Roberts 12 kills and 5 digs. Adison Ketchum added 6 kills, 9 assists, teammate Jacquelyn Campbell contributed 8 kills and 4 digs. Defensively for the Beavers Aleia Evanko led with 14 digs while Karsyn Bowyer tallied 8 digs.

Beaver Local (4-3) looks to get back on track Thursday as they travel to Harrison Central. East Liverpool (6-1) hits the road as well  as they travel to Beloit for a tri match on Saturday with West Branch and Crestwood.

BEAVERS CAN FOCUS ON CHALLENGE AHEAD

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a dominating display of football prowess, Beaver Local left no room for doubt as they blanked Jefferson with a commanding 43-0 victory. The first quarter set the tone for the Beavers, as they recovered a Kaige Boczar fumble at Jefferson’s 36-yard line, quickly capitalizing with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Austin Cline to Brock Severs, taking an early 7-0 lead. Jefferson struggled to convert on 4th down at the Beavers’ 31-yard line, allowing Cline to connect with Taylor Johnston for a 5-yard touchdown pass, extending their lead to 14-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Beaver Local’s relentless offense continue to shine, with Cline tossing a 25-yard touchdown pass to Johnston, furthering their lead to 21-0. The Beavers executed an onside kick to perfection, recovering the ball at Jefferson’s 27-yard line, leading to Tyler Prideau’s 1-yard touchdown run, expanding their advantage to 28-0. Jefferson struggled to gain momentum, failing to convert on downs, and Kaleb Mays missed a 41-yard FG attempt. The half concluded with Beaver Local firmly in control, leading 28-0.

The third quarter saw no respite for Jefferson, as Cline connected with Johnston once more for a 3-yard touchdown pass, pushing the score to 35-0. Beaver Local’s dominance was sealed with a 30-yard touchdown run by Brock Severs, and they successfully converted a 2-point play following a busted PAT attempt, ultimately sealing their triumphant 43-0 victory.

With this commanding win, Beaver Local looks ahead with momentum to their highly anticipated Week 4 matchup against their arch-rivals, East Liverpool, in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

BEAVERS SWEEP ASIDE ST CLAIRSVILLE

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a dominant display of volleyball prowess, Beaver Local swept aside St. Clairsville in a convincing three-set victory, with scores of 25-18, 25-12, and 25-17.

Beaver Local’s performance was nothing short of outstanding, led by some stellar individual contributions. Jocelyn Pomeroy led the offensive charge with an impressive 10 kills, while Jacqueline Campbell showcased her all-around skills with 9 kills and 13 digs. Aleia Evanko added to the offensive firepower with 9 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces, keeping the pressure on St. Clairsville.

Addison Ketchum orchestrated the team’s offense effectively, accumulating 15 assists and contributing 2 blocks to the defensive effort. Beaver Local’s comprehensive victory now allows them to shift their focus to a highly anticipated matchup against their biggest rival, East Liverpool, on the road next Tuesday. This victory serves as a testament to Beaver Local’s skill and determination as they prepare for the challenges that lie ahead in the season.

BEAVERS AVOID A LOSING STREAK

SALEM OH- After being held scoreless in the 1st half for the second consecutive week, the Salem Quaker offense shows signs of life in the 2nd to the tune of 20 points, but in the end it wasn’t enough to overcome the offensive output of Austin Cline and the Beaver Local Beavers (1-1), who overtook Salem early on en route to a 41-20 victory.

Cline was a one man wrecking crew, accounting for over 300 yards of total offense (190 rushing, 122 passing) and three total scores. He did get help from his skill position teammates, namely Brock Severs and Tyler Prideau, who each helped balance out the run and passing attack of the Beavers on the night. Severs contributed 57 yards and a score on the ground, and another 114 yards and a score through the air, while Prideau ran hard all night to the tune of 10 carries for close to 70 hard-earned yards.
For Salem (0-2), Sophomore QB Cletis Monroy had his 1st 100 yard game of his young career, both on the ground and through the air. Monroy finished his night with 120 yards rushing with 2 scores, to go along with 132 yards through the air and a score (47 yards to Marcus Phillips). Phillips finished with over 100 yards of total offense (52 rushing, 57 receiving) and a score.
Salem will travel to East Liverpool next week to take on the Potters in the 99th meeting between the two Columbiana County schools, while Beaver Local will play host to Jefferson Area.

BEAVERS ROAR PAST LIONS

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- The Beaver Local volleyball team opened their home schedule looking for back to back victories to start the season.  Mission accomplished as the Beavers defeated their visitors from Minerva in straight sets 25-23, 25-19, 25-13 as they moved to 2-0 on the young season.

Aleia Evanko came through with a great all around game posting a stat line of 18 assists, 7 kills and 3 aces. Teammate Adison Ketchum contributed 7 kills and 13 assists. Senior Peyton Roberts made her presence felt with 8 kills, 7 assists and 3 aces. Jocelyn Pomeroy added 7 kills on the night for the Red and White.  Defensively for the Beavers, Jacquelyn Campbell posted 9 digs and Danica Germanovich added 8 digs on the night.

Beaver Local (2-0) will look for the three straight to start the season as they welcome 2022 State Semifinalist Union Local to the Beaver Dome on Thursday.

WILDCATS PUT UP THEIR DUKES AGAINST BEAVER LOCAL

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- In a football clash brimming with excitement and dramatic turns, the Struthers Wildcats squared off against the Beaver Local team in a game that would leave an indelible mark on both players and fans. The final score, 37-20 in favor of Struthers, reflected the relentless battles fought on the field, and some stellar play for the pair of signal callers.

The first quarter set the tone as Beaver Local’s Austin Cline displayed precision, connecting with Taylor Johnston for an 11-yard passing touchdown, giving his team an early 7-0 lead with 5 minutes and 30 seconds left. Struthers responded swiftly as Jason Dukes tore through the defense, scoring a 37-yard rushing touchdown and bringing the score to 7-6 with just 2 minutes left in the quarter. The game’s tempo escalated when Struthers’ Robert Carcelli intercepted a pass from Cline, preventing Beaver Local from extending their lead, and maintaining the score at 7-6 with 21 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The second quarter unfolded with a relentless back-and-forth battle. Struthers’ Na’Jier Howard exhibited finesse, connecting with Jason Dukes for a 25-yard screen pass touchdown, shifting the lead to Struthers at 14-7 with 9 minutes and 48 seconds left. A subsequent fumble by Beaver Local’s Brock Severs on the kickoff further challenged their momentum. Dukes continued to dazzle as he notched an 11-yard rushing touchdown, bolstering Struthers’ lead to 22-7 with 8 minutes and 53 seconds left. Despite a valiant effort, Beaver Local’s Austin Cline’s fourth-and-goal quarterback sneak failed, allowing Struthers to maintain their advantage at 22-7 with 4 minutes and 30 seconds left. However, Cline’s determination shone through as he connected with Taylor Johnston for a 6-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 22-14 with just 51 seconds left in the half.

As the third quarter commenced, Struthers continued to assert their dominance. Dukes demonstrated his versatility, executing a 1-yard quarterback sneak touchdown after a meticulous 7-minute drive, expanding Struthers’ lead to 30-14 with 4 minutes and 51 seconds remaining. Beaver Local, on the other hand, faced difficulties, as Cline’s incomplete pass on fourth down and 9 from Struthers’ 20-yard line led to a stalled drive, leaving the score at 30-14 with 42 seconds left.

The fourth quarter brought a whirlwind of action, with both teams striving to make their mark. Struthers’ Devin Braham carved a path on the field, accumulating 70 rushing yards during a 3-and-a-half-minute drive. However, a failed fourth-down attempt at the Beaver Local 5-yard line kept the score steady at 30-14 with 9 minutes and 16 seconds left. Beaver Local continued to fight as Cline orchestrated a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Prideau, though the two-point conversion attempt fell short, leaving the score at 30-20 with 5 minutes and 47 seconds left. Struthers’ Braham solidified his team’s victory with a 5-yard rushing touchdown, sealing the final score at 37-20 with just 1 minute and 21 seconds remaining.

Struthers notch their first win of the season, in what promises to be an exciting season for the Wildcats, while Beaver Local will look to next week to try and pick up their first victory of the 2023 campaign.

BEAVER LOCAL VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH SARAH LOWE

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- Beaver Local has been gearing up all summer long for another impressive volleyball season.  They have a solid mix of strong leadership and talented youth. After last season when Beaver Local had to find ways to replace one of the best senior classes in the program’s history. That season has given everyone on their roster a step up in experience. Now they will use it to mix up a great season.  Sarah Lowe is one of the most well respected coaches in the YSN family.  She comes back to lead the Beavers through another journey.

Coach Lowe was kind enough to sit down and talk to YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to give us a solid preview of their season. They talk about the strong leaders that have developed on their roster, the tough schedule they’ve put together, and much more. Check out Episode 1 of Coach’s Corner with Sarah Lowe only on YSN!
