RICCITELLI GETS IT DONE AGAIN; TAKES BIG DOG VICTORY

BOARDMAN, OH- Lady Spartan standout Mackenzie Riccitelli has chalked up her second Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley title in her career.

Riccitelli broke away from the crowd with over 25,000 votes in the Week 2 contest and now becomes eligible for the Big Dog of the Year at the season’s end.

Mackenzie and her teammates have the Lady Spartans off to a 5-3 start to the year and look to return the program to its championship roots.

Congratulations to Mackenzie and her family, friends, and fans for this achievement, and good luck throughout the rest of the season.

BEST TAKES THE WEEK TWO BIG DOG CROWN

COLUMBIANA, OH- Congratulations to Crestview standout hooper, James Best who brought home the Week 2 victory in the Baird Brothers Big Dogs of the Valley contest.

Best has helped his team on both sides of the floor, and he and his teammates have the Rebels atop the MVAC standings to start 2023.

Congratulations to James along with his family, friends, and fans for bringing home the honor of Big Dog of the Valley in Week 2.

James is now eligible for the Big Dog of the Year contest which will take place at the season’s end.

COLUCCI WINS BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY

CANFIELD, OH- It’s been a pretty good month for South Range’s Chris Colucci.  “Pher” played the game of his life in the Division V State Championships in football at the beginning of the month, and brought home his second state championship.  Followed by his 100th career victory in wrestling just a few weeks later, and now Chris Colucci is your Week 2 Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley in Wrestling.

Colucci, who registered over 20,000 votes on the week, held off some great competition from five other nominees.

Congratulations to Chris and his family, friends, and fans on the victory, and best of luck throughout the rest of the season.

BRANT BRINGS HOME BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY

POLAND, OH- Poland’s Mary Brant has added another line to her impressive resume: Basketball Big Dog of the Valley!

Brant was supported heavily in the first week with a contest that produced over a half million votes in the opening week.

The Lady Bulldog standout will now put her hat in the ring for the Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Year at the conclusion of the season.

Congratulations to Mary Brant on her victory, and best of luck this season!

VAUGHN GETS THE VOTES TO ADVANCE TO BIG DOG FINALS

AUSTINTOWN, OH- Austintown Fitch football standout, Deshawn Vaughn was voted into the Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Year Final Vote this past week!

Vaughn served as safety, and QB1 for the Falcons prior to a season-ending injury late in the season, but that certainly did not put a cap on the support of his teammates the rest of the way.

Deshawn’s support was returned this week as he defeated 3 other great student-athletes in the semi-finals to punch his ticket to the final vote!

With the win, Vaughn will go head to head with Southern Local’s Wyatt Morris for the 2022 Football Big Dog of the Year honors.  Voting will begin on Wednesday, November 9th, and will conclude the following Monday at midnight, with the winners announced on Tuesday, November 15th on YSN Social Media.

FORSYTH GETS PAST SEMIFINAL ROUND IN BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY POLLS

POLAND, OH- Senior outside hitter and setter Sarah Forsyth won the semifinal round for the Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley competition. Forsyth led the Bulldogs to a winning record of 11-10 overall, while getting past a tough NE8 conference with six wins. Forsyth and the Bulldogs won there first round tournament game sweeping Cardinal Mooney 3-0. In that match, Forsyth had a triple-double with a team high 11 kills, 13 assists and 19 digs.

Forsyth has advanced to the championship round in the Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley competition starting next week. Be sure to check out ysnlive.com, and click the Big Dogs tab to vote. Voting is unlimited and will stretch until next Monday night at midnight.

FORSYTH CROWNED BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY IN WEEK EIGHT

POLAND, OH- Senior outside hitter Sarah Forsyth has taken home the week eight Big Dog of the Valley after her performances in the last week of the regular season. Forsyth has led the Bulldogs on the outside all season long, compiling a team high 181 kills in her senior campaign. Not only has she hit the ball well this season, but she has also been involved as the teams second setter, adding 154 assists to her stat sheet.

Forsyth was a huge piece to the Bulldogs last two wins to close out the regular season. She had a team high 13 kills in the 3-1 win over Springfield on October 3rd, along with adding another 10 kills in the win over Niles to end the regular season on October 6th. The Bulldogs look to lean on senior Sarah Forsyth in the first round of the playoffs tomorrow against Cardinal Mooney. First serve is scheduled for 6 P.M. CALDWELL STRIKES WEEK 6 BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY

CHAMPION, OH- Sophomore volleyball standout Kennedy Caldwell has won Big Dog of the Valley in week six. Caldwell has led the Golden Flashes in hitting this season, recording 208 kills in 63 sets played. Caldwell has led the Golden Flashes to two wins in the last three matches as Champion begins to wrap up regular season play. This is a young Champion volleyball team this season, but is still managing to be right under .500 by one match. Caldwell has not only been good at hitting the volleyball, but also serving as well. She has managed to get 34 serving aces in 64 sets played, along with a serve percentage of 87%.

The Golden Flashes have two big match-ups coming up as they travel to LaBrae on Tuesday, before hosting Liberty on Thursday. Congratulations to Kennedy Caldwell on winning the week 6 Big Dog of the Valley, brought to you by:

VAUGHN TAKES HOME BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY

Austintown, OH- Junior quarterback and safety Deshawn Vaughn has won this past weeks Big Dogs of The Valley competition. Vaughn has been a key leader to the Falcons this season after losing quarterback Devin Sherwood from last year. Vaughn has led the Falcons to a 5-1 start, with a plethora of big time wins against: Foothill (NV), Ursuline, Canton McKinley, and Lewis J. Bennett(NY).

Vaughn gave the Falcons a chance to win the ballgame against one of the best teams in Ohio, the Massillon Washington Tigers. In the ballgame, Vaughn was 16-23 through the air for a total of 266 yards and 3 touchdowns. Vaughn also did it with his legs, scoring a touchdown on the ground for a total of 4 touchdowns on the night. GROPE WINS WEEK 5 VOLLEYBALL BIG DOG OF THE VALLEY

North Jackson, OH- Senior Jackson-Milton standout Paige Grope won this past weeks Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Valley. Grope just recently surpassed 1,000 assists in the match against Sebring on September 8th. Grope is the only Blue Jay ever to record 1,000 assists throughout her high school career.

Grope has had an astonishing senior season, recording 208 assists to date, while also recording 149 digs defensively. The Blue Jays are looking for a push to get ready for the playoffs, and Grope will be a shoulder to lean on in the final 6 matches of the regular season.
