RESERVE SNAGS THE TROPHY OVER JACKSON

BERLIN CENTER, OH-  In a clash of titans that epitomized the essence of high school basketball rivalry, the Western Reserve Blue Devils emerged victorious over the Jackson Milton Blue Jays in a thrilling showdown for the illustrious President’s Memorial Trophy. With the 57th installment of their storied competition unfolding on the hardwood, Reserve showcased their mettle with a commanding 68-44 triumph over their fierce adversaries.

From the opening tip-off, it was evident that both teams were prepared to leave everything on the court in pursuit of glory and honor. The stakes were high, the atmosphere electric, and the intensity palpable as fans from both camps filled the stands, eagerly anticipating a contest for the ages.

Leading the charge for the Western Reserve Blue Devils was their formidable big man, Andrew Hendricks. With a dominating double-double performance, Hendricks showcased his prowess in the paint, tallying 14 crucial points while asserting his presence with authority under the boards. Hendricks’ unwavering commitment to excellence earned him the prestigious title of Player of the Game, a testament to his invaluable contributions to Reserve’s victory.

But Hendricks wasn’t the lone star shining bright for the Blue Devils. Dom Ricciardi, with a stellar display of offensive firepower, led all Devil scorers with an impressive 17 points, demonstrating his ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most. Luke Henning bolstered Reserve’s offensive onslaught with 13 points of his own, while Brock Wellman rounded out the quartet of double-digit scorers with a solid 11 points, underscoring the team’s depth and resilience.

On the opposing side, the Jackson Milton Blue Jays fought valiantly throughout the contest, led by the dynamic duo of Ryan Romigh and Alex Rotuna. Romigh’s outstanding performance saw him finish with an impressive 23 points, while Rotuna contributed 10 points of his own in a commendable display of skill and determination.

Despite the Blue Jays’ tenacity and determination, they ultimately found themselves unable to withstand the relentless offensive barrage unleashed by their formidable opponents.

With this crucial victory, the Western Reserve Blue Devils improved their standing in the MVAC to three wins and six losses, while boasting an overall record of 4-11. Conversely, the Jackson Milton Blue Jays now stand at 3-6 in conference play, with an overall record of 5-8, as they regroup and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.

SNOW WONT STOP SPRINGFIELD

NORTH JACKSON OH- In a snowy Friday where several games faced cancellations, Springfield embarked on a journey to Jackson Milton, securing a close 49-43 victory over the Blue Jays.

Sean Guerriero led Springfield’s scoring efforts with 15 points, complemented by Dylan Sheely contributing 10 points, and Isaac LaMorticella and Carson Cunningham adding 8 and 7 points, respectively.

On the Jackson Milton side, Ryan Romigh showcased a commendable performance with 17 points, supported by Cayden Mitchell with 8 points and Alex Rotuna contributing 6 points.

With this hard-fought win, Springfield (10-3) will hit the road for Western Reserve on Tuesday, aiming to extend their positive momentum. Jackson Milton (4-8) will also be on the road on Tuesday, traveling to Sebring, as they seek to regroup and bounce back from the narrow defeat.

RAMS ARE STILL ON THE RUN

MINERAL RIDGE OH- In a dominating performance, Mineral Ridge made quick work of McDonald on Thursday, securing a decisive 71-22 victory and maintaining their strong position in the MVAC.

Sullivan Sandy led the scoring charge for Mineral Ridge with an impressive 20 points, supported by Ava Hulett contributing 16 points, and Gianna Gilbert, Lily Merolillo, Norah Schnieder, and Sam Aulet each adding points to the winning effort.

With this commanding win, Mineral Ridge (14-1) looks forward to a home non-conference game on Monday as they host Mogadore. Meanwhile, McDonald (5-7) will stay within the league, traveling to Sebring on Monday in pursuit of a rebound victory.

YASIN GRABS QUADRUPLE DOUBLE IN JAYS DOMINATE WIN

In a dominant display, Jackson Milton secured another MVAC win on Thursday, running away from Sebring with a commanding 59-19 victory.

The standout performance of the night came from Amani Yasin, who achieved an incredibly rare quadruple double. Yasin notched 10 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds, and an impressive 10 steals, showcasing her exceptional all-around contribution to the team. Emma Johns also delivered a stellar performance, scoring a career-high 25 points, while Macayle Thornhill added 6 points to the scoring effort.

With this comprehensive win, Jackson Milton (8-6) looks ahead to their next challenge on Monday when they host Western Reserve. On the other side, Sebring (4-11) will be home on Monday, facing McDonald and seeking to regroup after the challenging defeat.

On the opposing side, Amani Yasin led Jackson Milton’s effort with 12 points, closely followed by Emma Johns with 10 points. Despite their contributions, Mineral Ridge’s early control of the game proved insurmountable for Jackson Milton.

With this win, Mineral Ridge now stands at an impressive 11-1 record and looks forward to hosting Sebring in their upcoming league play on Thursday. Jackson Milton, at 7-5, will hit the road to face Springfield in their next matchup on Thursday.

JACKSON MILTON DECIMATES THE DEVILS

NORTH JACKSON OH- On Wednesday, Jackson Milton showcased their dominance on the basketball court, maintaining a record above .500 with a convincing 59-12 win over Lordstown. The Blue Jays’ stellar performance was highlighted by a remarkable 22-0 second quarter, solidifying their control of the game.

Amani Yasin led the scoring charge for Jackson Milton, delivering an outstanding double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Emma Johns contributed 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Macayle Thornhill and Hannah Huzyak each added 11 points, underscoring the team’s well-rounded offensive effort.

With this commanding win, Jackson Milton advances to a 6-4 record and will continue their pursuit of success in MVAC play. The Blue Jays will face McDonald on Thursday, aiming to build on the momentum gained from this impressive victory.

SPRINGFIELD SIMPLY TOO MUCH TO HANDLE

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH- It was the start of section pay for Springfield as the Tigers faced off against Jackson Milton. Thanks to a defensive effort by Springfield they were able to secure a 52-39 win.

 

The Tigers got off to a hot start shooting with 3 quick 3 pointers and were able stretch the lead to 30-17 at the half. Another run in the 3rd quarter gave Springfield a comfortable lead going into the 4th. However with Springfield getting into some foul trouble and a 9 point 4th by Ryan Romigh gave the Blue Jays a final run to keep it close down the stretch.

 

Dylan Sheely was the lead scorer for the Tigers with 14 and Sean Guerriero contributed 12. For the Blue Jays Ryan Romigh had 17 points.

 

Springfield improved to 2-1 on the season and their next game is Friday, December 15th against Western Reserve. Jackson Milton now 2-2 looks on to Sebring this Friday, December 15th.

 

BLUE JAYS STARTING A STREAK

SEBRING OH- In an impressive display of dominance, Jackson Milton secured their second consecutive win on Monday night, rolling to a commanding 55-21 victory over Sebring.

Amani Yasin delivered a standout performance, achieving a rare triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals. Macayle Thornhill contributed significantly with 16 points, showcasing perfection at the free-throw line (8/8) and securing a double-double with 12 steals. Emma Johns added 11 points to round out the Lady Jays’ formidable offensive effort.

With a current record of 3-2, Jackson Milton looks to maintain their winning streak as they hit the road to face the Western Reserve Lady Blue Devils in an upcoming MVAC contest on Thursday, December 14. The Lady Jays aim to continue their strong start to the season with another impressive performance.

BLUE JAYS FIND THEIR TEMPO

In a methodical performance, Jackson Milton steadily extended their lead over Heartland Christian, securing a significant 51-31 victory against the Lions, who entered the game with only one loss.

Leading the way for Jackson Milton was Hannah Huzyak, contributing 19 points and 6 rebounds. Amani Yasin delivered an impressive double-double with 11 points and an outstanding 16 rebounds. Nora Schwarten added 10 points to the team’s success, while Macayle Thornhill chipped in with 6 points.

Heartland’s efforts were led by Rachel Reynolds, who scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Mackenzie Lighltly, Emily McDowell, and Rylee Shadowens each contributed 6 points.

Jackson Milton is set to resume conference play with a game against Sebring on Monday, while Heartland Christian aims to bounce back on December 16th with an away game against Lisbon.

SPRINGFIELD SETS THE TONE IN CONFERENCE PLAY

NORTH JACKSON OH- The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) looks to be an interesting and competitive conference in both the scarlet and gray divisions in girls basketball. With conference play opening up for MVAC teams on both sides. Thursday night, it led to a lot of intriguing matchups within the divisions. One of those matchups were, winners of the scarlet division a year ago, The Springfield Tigers taking on the returning Jackson-Milton Blue Jays for the first time since February 2nd, 2022!

Springfield came out with a fury as three different Tigers scored in the first 65 seconds to take an early 7-0 advantage. Tigers continued to play at their tempo in the opening quarter as Jameka Brungard scored 9 points in the first quarter, helping Springfield hold a 17-2 advantage after the first quarter. The Tigers continued to display their dominance in the second, expanding on their lead and taking a 32-8 edge into the halftime locker room.

Springfield looked to be on the same trajectory in the second half as following the third quarter they were up by a commanding 46-14 lead. However, a scrappy bunch of you Blue Jays refused to throw in the towel and continued to battle for the full 32 minutes, managing to win the fourth quarter 11-7. However, it would not be enough, as The Tigers set the tone in conference play with the 53-25 victory over Jackson-Milton.

Springfield’s Jameka Brungard won Player of the Game honors with her 18 points in the game all of which were scored in the first half! Following her was Mariana Tuscano who finished with 7 points, Reagan Rogenski who finished with 6 points and both Karigan Mullen and Kristina Vecchione who each had 5 points. Primary scorers for The Blue Jays were both Emma Johns and Amani Yasin who both had 9 points on the evening.

Springfield (3-2)(1-0) will now get back home where they will continue conference play, hosting The Western Reserve Blue Devils (1-2)(0-0) on Monday, December 11th with a 7 p.m. tip-off. For Jackson-Milton (1-2) they will go back out of conference when they host The Heartland-Christian Lions (3-1) on Saturday, December 9th scheduled for a 1:45 p.m. tip-off.
