BOMBERS LIGHT UP THE SCOREBOARD AGAINST CHALKER

WINDHAM, OH- In a commanding display of offensive firepower, the Windham Bombers secured a dominant 17-3 victory over Chalker on Saturday, with Jack Eye leading the charge with a flawless three-hit performance.

Eye showcased his hitting prowess throughout the game, going a perfect 3-for-3 at-bats. He kicked off the offensive onslaught with a double in the first inning, followed by singles in the second and fourth innings, setting the tone for the Bombers’ relentless attack.

While Chalker managed to get on the board early in the first inning, the Bombers quickly turned the game in their favor with a remarkable five-run surge in the bottom half of the inning. Anthony Paolella’s crucial walk with the bases loaded proved to be the turning point, driving in two runs and igniting the Bombers’ offensive explosion.

Windham continued to extend their lead in the following innings, with Eye and his teammates delivering key hits and taking advantage of Chalker’s defensive miscues. The Bombers capitalized on every opportunity, scoring runs in multiple ways to keep the pressure on their opponents.

On the mound, Eye also shone brightly, earning the win as the starting pitcher. He showcased his versatility by surrendering just two hits and three runs over five innings while striking out an impressive nine batters and issuing only four walks.

Despite a tough outing for Chalker’s pitcher, identified as D, the Bombers’ relentless offense proved to be too much to handle. D endured a challenging performance, allowing 11 runs on five hits over two innings, ultimately taking the loss for Chalker.

Offensively, Paolella emerged as a standout performer for the Bombers, leading the team with four RBIs, while Dylan McCune and Eye each contributed three hits to bolster Windham’s offensive barrage.

The Bombers demonstrated exceptional discipline at the plate, drawing a total of 14 walks throughout the game, with Jordan Ridenbaugh and Jacob Cody leading the team with three free passes each. Windham’s aggressive baserunning also paid dividends, with Ridenbaugh, Eye, and Austin Cales collectively stealing multiple bases to keep the pressure on Chalker’s defense.

Defensively, the Bombers were flawless, committing no errors in the field, with McCune making the most plays with 10.

While Chalker High School put up a valiant effort, the Bombers’ dominant performance proved too much to overcome. With this convincing victory under their belts, the Windham Bombers will carry their momentum into their next matchup as they prepare to face Fairport Harding High School on Tuesday.

BOMBERS CANT FIND THE RUNWAY AGAINST AQUINAS

By Matt Maher

WINDHAM, OH – The Bombers wrapped up their regular season with a home game against St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday night where Windham fought hard to try and pull together a win for their seniors on senior night and the fans who made it out. While both teams played a tight game where both defense and offense matched it would be the visiting Knights who would run away with the 26-24 victory.

Both teams came out playing a bit of a sloppy game with turnovers and hard shots attempted but that makes sense given that both teams were coming off of 2-game losing streaks and both wanted to go into tournament play with a win, they were nervous and their drive to win showed clearly. The Quarter started with a Janya Jeter 2 and then 5 more points from K’Lynn Carter who found the games first 3 and got a nice floater as well. Windham only found 4 points with 2 coming from Briah Daniel and the other 2 from Abby Simpson.

Both teams kept their pace in the second quarter with Aquinas finding 7 more points to Windhams 5. All 7 of the Knights points this frame came from K’Lynn Carter who was shooting like a superstar for her team with three made 2’s and 1-of-2 made free throws she needed to be Windham’s main target to defend after halftime. Daniel found 3 more points for the Bombers with a 2 and 1-of-2 made free throws while Lorena De Oliveria found her first 2 points off of a rebound.

Windham responded in the 3rd quarter with an 8-5 edge over Aquinas. While the Bombers found more offense this quarter and even held a lead for the first time all night, Aquinas had a good enough first half and did enough out of the break to take a 19-17 lead into the 4th. Carter continued to lead the Knights this time with just 3 points with 1 from the line and 2 in the paint. Daniel scored half of her team’s points with two 2’s while De Oliveria and Mariah Woods both found scores inside the arc.

The 4th quarter was set to be an energetic conclusion to our already close game and the 7-7 score proved that. Jeter took over this quarter with 5 points while Carter added 2 more on her impressive night. The Bombers staged a late comeback that was spearheaded by Abby Simpsons 3 that got Windham back within 2 but despite a few turnovers going the Bombers way they just couldn’t get past the pressure they had to find the equalizing 2 points and fell short of the comeback.

The Bombers played a very close and even game against Aquinas but just couldn’t figure out how to stop K’Lynn Carter who had 17 points on the night which led all scorers. Briah Daniel led the Bombers with 10 points while Lorena De Oliveria sat 2nd with 6. The focus for both teams now shifts to tournament play where both teams will start their postseason journey on on February 21st with Aquinas taking on East Canton and Windham playing Newton Falls, both games tip off at 7:00PM and if both teams win in the first round they would meet again in the 2nd round where Windham would love to get another jab at these Knights.

LABRAE DEFENSE LOOMS LARGE

By Matt Maher

LEAVITTSBURG, OH – It was business as usual for LaBrae Tuesday night when they hosted Windham. The Vikings would show dominant play on offense and some great defense against the Bombers that would help lead them to a 52-32 victory.

For Windham the first quarter was a feeling out for how the game would go and as a result of their more passive start they would only put up 6 points. All 6 came from 3 different sources: Briah Daniel, Brielle Jones and Lorena De Oliveria. While The Bombers didn’t score a whole lot, they did find a groove on the defensive side of the ball in the final 2 minutes which helped them keep LaBrae from scoring on an astronomical scale. Speaking of LaBrae they found 14 points with 9 of them coming from the great Ella Kuszmaul who hit three 2’s as well as the games first 3.

LaBrae continued their hot hands with 16 more points in the 2nd quarter. Scoring was spread across 6 different players including Marissa Levensky who found her first 2, Mia Sloan who scored a beautiful 3 and Ella Kuszmaul who found 5 more points with a 2 and a 3. Windham found 10 points and were led by Daniel who erupted for 6 points and really got her fantastic night started in this frame.

Windham would continue to see Daniel score another 8 points and continue to amaze everyone in the gym and at home. The other 2 points would come from Mariah Woods who had spent all night intercepting passes and pushing the ball down the floor and while the majority of her shots were too hard she did show improvement as the game went on. LaBrae scored 12 more points on their way to 52 with another even quarter of scoring among the team. Levensky scored 4 more points doubling her first half production while Kuszmaul only added 2 more points.

Windham continued their defensive showing but still had trouble cashing in on chances and with their struggles they only managed to score 6 points with all of them coming from Daniel who hit a 2 and then went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Briah Daniel would go on to finish the night with 22 points which led all players in scoring. LaBrae would only score 10 points with 6 of them coming from Levensky who really found herself in the final frame. The other 4 would come from Eva Prejsnar and Kuszmaul who each scored 2 points.

It was another great night for the Vikings who improved to 8-1 with this latest victory. Ella Kuszmaul finished with 18 points and Marissa Levensky with 12. For Windham they were led far and away by Briah Daniel with her 22 points and no Bomber came close with the second highest scorer being Mariah Woods who had 4 points. Despite the great defense we saw from Windham the Vikings were too much to contain and as a result they moved to 4-3. Windham will be back in action where they travel to Maplewood to take on the rockets at 5:30Pm on January 4th and LaBrae will stay at home when they host Campbell Memorial on January 4th at 7:00PM.

WINDHAM OH-  In a thrilling and competitive night of basketball on the network, The Windham Bombers
girls basketball team had their season opening game at home where they hosted The McDonald Blue Devils. Windham, representatives of The Northeastern Athletic Conference (NAC) Stripes Division, opted for the early non-conference matchup with McDonald members of The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) Scarlet Division.

The Blue Devils jumped out to an early advantage 14-7 after one quarter, propelled by two triples in the quarter, one by Gracie Callow and the other by Juliana Krumpak. The second quarter wound up being the lowest scoring of the game for both teams, with each squad scoring just 8 points each in the quarter with defense taking precedence. Drawing even in the frame allowed McDonald to hold onto their 7 point advantage heading to the locker room, up 22-15 at halftime.

At the start of the third quarter, it looked like Windham started to find their groove on offense; however, The Blue Devils maintained their lead through matching the scores of The Bombers, with McDonald leading 35-26 heading to the fourth and final quarter. It was bombs away from that point for Windham and the combination of Mariah Woods and Briah Daniel marched The Bombers right back into the game, eventually taking a fourth quarter lead! For most teams, losing the lead late is a tough pill to swallow, but McDonald still found a way to get it done, holding off Windham for the 45-42 win!
Big scorer of the night was McDonald’s Gracie Gallow who finished with 17 points to lead the game, while Cierra Shiley cleaned up the boards and locked down the post for The Blue Devils. But the Player of The Game performance goes to Juliana Krumpak who displayed an impressive amount of toughness, grit and courage to compile 15 timely points to help lead her team to victory!
