TATAR SIGNS ON TO SLIPPERY ROCK

HOWLAND OH- Howland’s Brooke Tatar is taking her talents to the next level, officially signing to play softball at Slippery Rock University. Tatar has been a force for the Tigers, building an impressive resume over her career and leaving her mark in the record books.

Tatar’s list of achievements speaks for itself. She’s been named to the All-AAC First Team three times, earned Honorable Mention and Second Team All-District honors, and was recognized as a NEOFSCA Honorable Mention All-Northeast Ohio player. She also holds two OHSAA records: one for smashing three home runs in a single game and another for 39 RBIs in a season, which broke Howland’s school record.

In the circle, Tatar has been just as dominant, setting the school record for most strikeouts in a season with 132. Off the field, she’s been recognized as an OHSAA Scholar Athlete, proving she’s as sharp in the classroom as she is on the field.

Slippery Rock is getting a competitor who knows how to deliver in big moments. Congrats to Brooke on her signing, and best of luck as she gears up for her senior season with the Tigers!

ITS A TATAR TAKEOVER

WARREN OH- This area is simply riddled with not only good pitching, but good young pitching. You take a look at just the AAC conference, the top 4 teams all have non senior pitchers leading their team in ERA.  For Howland’s contribution to that statement, they bring sophomore Brooke Tatar to the forefront.  Brooke made her name known from the jump her freshman season. She locked down a lot of tough hitters not just inside the Tigers conference, but also on Howland’s out of conference schedule which always features high level lineups.  A big key to Brooke’s success is the fact that she came up with a team that had an established upperclassman pitcher. Alexia Spangler has been crucial in the instant success of Tatar.  The example and composure that Spangler showed Tatar when she stepped on the field has been an excellent guide. When Tatar is asked to take bigger leadership responsibilities next season as a junior she will lean on the experience of being a teammate of Spangler.

Tatar has pitched well in her second varsity season.  Her ERA is barely over 3, sitting at .302.  Brooke has a fantastic strikeout to walk ratio with 70 strikeouts and just 16 walks.  Brooke, and Lexi have split innings pitched almost evenly.  Tatar has worked 48.2 IP.  At the plate Brooke doesn’t slump either. Tatar is hitting an even .500 on the season with 7 home runs, and 29 RBI.

Brooke was kind enough to take time to sit down with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her career so far. They discuss the time she puts in to softball, what her favorite pitch to throw is, and so much more. Make sure to check out the latest Howland Softball Player Profile only on YSN!
