JUST MORE TOURNAMENT SUCCESS FOR HOWLAND

HOWLAND OH- Howland Boys Soccer defeated Lakeview 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to open up the 2022 OHSAA playoffs.

Herb Lawson, Demetri Gentis, Pasquale Carannante, and Vasili Gentis all had one goal each.  Goals were assisted by Jak Kenney, Herb Lawson, Caleb Rose, and Pasquale Carannante.  Zach Lewis had 3 saves to preserve the shutout.

Howland improves to 14-1-2 overall on the season and will face Notre Dame Cathedral Latin on Tuesday October 25th 6pm at Howland High School.

LAKEVIEW DOESN’T FALTER TO CONFERENCE FOE

COLUMBIANA OH- They say it’s hard to beat a team three times in a season. That is exactly what Lakeview would have to do if they wanted a trip to the district semifinals. The Bulldogs didn’t waiver an inch as they swept Poland for the third time this season to advance. (25-13 25-15 25-9)

Emma Schmader and Tara Lytle both took the team lead in kills with 10 a piece.  Maggie Pavlansky had a productive night setting with 25 assists.  Maddie Bayus led the defense in the back row gathering 14 digs.  Brooke Schneider served well gathering 14 service points.

Lakeview advances to the district semifinals where they’ll match up with a fellow state ranked team in Crestview. First serve is set for 6:00 at Grand Valley High School on Wednesday.

LAKEVIEW CELEBRATES FINAL GAME ON HOME COURT

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview was voted as the four seed in the OHSAA Division 3 Northeast district. In a tough bracket full of state ranked teams, momentum is important. Lakeview took plenty of momentum forward as they celebrated their final game on their home floor with a sweep to move on to the next round. (25-6 25-8 25-11)

Tara Lytle did her thing in the middle leading the way with 16 kills.  Maggie Pavlansky spent her last night setting in the Lakeview gym leading the Bulldogs with 18 assists. Maddie Bayus had a big final home game as well. Not only did she lead the team in digs with 10, but she also celebrated her 1000th career dig on the court.  Reagan Price led the team in two categories with 2 blocks and 4 aces.

Lakeview moves on to the sectional final on Thursday as they’ll take on NE8 rival Poland for the third time this season. They will be the second game of the night in Crestview.  First serve is set for approximately 7:30.

POLAND POWERS THROUGH TO NEXT ROUND

CORTLAND OH- Tournament time has officially arrived which means it’s time to separate the ones that will keep their season going from the ones that have to pack it in. Poland didn’t want to say goodbye just yet. They swept Mooney is three competitive sets to move on to the next round. (26-24 25-23 26-24)

Sarah Forsyth led the Bulldogs offense by collecting 12 kills on the night.  Morgan Bailey set the offense well all night setting up 13 assists, and also serving 2 aces.  Madelyn Ray led the Poland defense with 10 digs. Katie McDonald was a force at the net hammering 4 blocks.

Poland moves on to play conference rival Lakeview for the third time this season on Thursday at Crestview.  It will be the second game of the night starting at approximately 7:30.  Mooney ends the season with a record of 8-14.

JEFFERSON SPOILS SENIOR NIGHT

POLAND OH- Senior night in Poland as the Jefferson Falcons traveled to Poland as both teams are looking to increase their ranking in playoffs. Jefferson was able to come away with the victory. 3 different players for the Falcons scored rushing touchdowns. Jefferson wins 27-13 in week 9.

Jefferson started out their scoring second play of the game with a 56 yard touchdown run by Running Back Luke Funtash. Flacons with the lead in the early going. Second quarter was all Falcons as well. Kicker Jensen Yarosh made two fields from 30+ yards making the game 13-0 going into the locker room.

Poland would make the second half interesting. After Running Back Trent Hodge scored a 4 yard touchdown run for the Falcons, Quarterback Cole Fulton scored two consecutive rushing touchdowns in the third quarter for Poland making the game 20-13. It was all Quarterback Grant Hitchcock and the Falcons from there scoring the final touchdown of the game from 3 yards out. Falcons win 27-13. Poland will travel to Struthers next week while Jefferson will travel to Lakeview. Catch both games live on YSNLive.com.
