CAMPBELL LETS OUT THEIR FRUSTRATIONS

CAMPBELL OH- In a powerful comeback from a tough outing last time out, Campbell unleashed their frustrations on Garfield, securing an emphatic 62-29 victory to rebound from their recent tough loss.

Leading the way for Campbell was Aziyah Flores with an impressive 21 points, accompanied by Josue Rodriguez contributing 18 points. David Moore added 9 points, and Teyon Harris chipped in with 6 points, showcasing a well-rounded offensive effort.

Garfield’s scoring efforts were led by Preston Gedeon and Vincent Yukich, each contributing 10 points.

With the win, Campbell moves to a 1-2 record and looks to carry the momentum into their next matchup with a home game against Newton Falls on Friday. Garfield, now 0-2, seeks to bounce back as they hit the road for a challenging matchup against LaBrae.

CRESTVIEW TROUNCES LADY DEVILS

COLUMBIANA, OH- In a lopsided victory, the Crestview Rebels showcased their dominance on the court by defeating Campbell Memorial with an overwhelming scoreline of 63-5 in Monday’s matchup.

The Rebels, led by standout performances, maintained their perfect record, improving to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the MVAC Grey Tier.

Key Performances for Crestview included Addison Rhodes, who was a force to be reckoned with, Rhodes recorded a double-double with a game-high 22 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals.  Luvrain Gaskins displaying versatility, Gaskins contributed significantly with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Brianna DiCross as a freshman point guard showcased exceptional playmaking skills, tallying an impressive 10 assists.  Emily Downey was a machine with seven assists and four steals, Downey played a crucial role in Crestview’s well-rounded performance.

The Rebels wasted no time asserting their dominance, establishing an 18-0 lead in the first quarter and extending it to 37-2 by halftime.

The Rebels’ junior varsity team also claimed victory, securing a 26-5 win over Campbell Memorial. Phiatra Bradley led the scoring for the junior varsity squad with seven points.

Crestview’s next challenge will be on the road against Brookfield on Thursday, where they aim to continue their undefeated streak.

POLAND USES ANOTHER GREAT FINISH TO SEAL THE DEAL

In a Friday night matchup, Poland showcased their defensive prowess, constructing a fourth-quarter wall to pull away from Campbell with a final score of 60-45. The Bulldogs effectively transformed a seven-point lead at the start of the final frame into a commanding 15-point victory.

Carmine Tukalo emerged as the offensive standout for the Bulldogs, securing a game-high 17 points. Tukalo has consistently proven himself as the top scorer in both of Poland’s games this season.

With this triumph, Poland’s record advances to 2-0. The Bulldogs are set to host Boardman on Saturday as part of the Poland United Way Classic, featuring a lineup of four basketball games throughout the day. The matchup between the Bulldogs and Spartans is anticipated to be the nightcap event of this exciting basketball showcase.

LIONS ROARING TO A STRONG START

CAMPBELL OH- Heartland Christian continued their impressive start to the season, securing their third win with a commanding 47-34 victory over Campbell Memorial.

The Lions displayed a balanced offensive effort, with Rachel Reynolds leading the scoring charge with 14 points, closely followed by Sarah Reynolds contributing 13 points, and Rylee Shadowens adding 12 points to the total. Campbell Memorial fought valiantly, and Diamon Sims showcased her scoring prowess with an impressive 20 points, while Angelis Espada added 10 points.

Despite a spirited effort from Campbell Memorial, Heartland Christian’s cohesive team performance proved pivotal in securing another decisive win.

RED DEVILS BURN BADGER LATE TO GET VICTORY

KINSMAN, OH- It was a big evening for the Badger Braves on opening night 2023, but Campbell was up to the task with a 69-64 victory to start the season.

For the Campbell Memorial Red Devils, the scoring was led by Josue Rodriguez, who notched an impressive 25 points. David Moore and Aziyah Flores both contributed significantly with 17 points each, while Adyn Vazquez added 5 points. Christos Davis and Teyon Harris Jr. rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 points, respectively. Under the guidance of Coach Nick Canterino, the Red Devils displayed consistent scoring throughout the quarters, putting up 20 points in the first, 13 in the second and third, and 23 in the fourth.

On the Badger Braves’ side, Duncan Moy had a standout performance, contributing 20 points and reaching a significant milestone by scoring the thousandth point of his career with a three-pointer in the first quarter. Preston Geracitano played a strong game on both ends of the floor, finishing with 16 points. Alton Winchek displayed clutch moments throughout the game and ended with 12 points, while freshman Jack Harnett added 11 points. Bryce Gross chipped in with 5 points. The Braves, coached by Josh Upshire, fought hard but ultimately fell short in a closely contested battle.

 

RAMIREZ-ORTIZ CROWNED BIG DOG OF THE YEAR

Campbell Memorial Senior, Carla Ramirez-Ortiz, recently clinched the prestigious title of Baird Brothers Big Dog of the Year, triumphing in a resounding victory with over one hundred thousand votes in her favor. This accolade is a testament to Ramirez-Ortiz’s outstanding contributions to her team, her unparalleled skills, and the overwhelming support she enjoys from her community.

October’s MVAC Athlete of the Week, First Team All District, and First Team All MVAC, Ramirez-Ortiz has left an indelible mark on the volleyball scene. Her impact was not limited to individual accolades; she played a pivotal role in guiding her team to a program-best 19-6 record and a sectional championship. Ramirez-Ortiz’s leadership and on-court prowess were instrumental in Campbell Memorial’s success, marking a historic season for the Lady Red Devils.

One of the standout achievements in Ramirez-Ortiz’s illustrious career is surpassing the 2,000-assist milestone, a testament to her exceptional skill as a setter. LIBERTY SHOWS OFF THEIR EXPLOSIVENESS

CAMPBELL OH- In a high-scoring Week 10 showdown, Liberty’s explosive offense proved too much for Campbell to handle as they secured a resounding 67-21 victory. The first quarter began with Liberty setting the tone early, as Tawann Tutwiler orchestrated a 17-yard touchdown, successfully converted by Ethan Brookbank, propelling Liberty to a 7-0 lead. The quarter concluded with Tutwiler connecting with Dwayne Moody for an impressive 62-yard touchdown pass, though the extra point was missed, leaving the score at 13-0.

In the second quarter, Campbell fought back with Mathew Koziorynski scoring a 4-yard touchdown run at 9:42, narrowing the gap to 13-7. However, Liberty’s Tutwiler responded swiftly, connecting with Dawaun Moody for a 20-7 lead after a successful extra point. Campbell’s Dondre Brown then returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, bringing the score to 20-14. Liberty continued to press their advantage as Tutwiler found Dawaun Moody again, this time for a 40-yard touchdown pass, pushing their lead to 27-14. Moments later, Liberty’s Brashawn Hicks capitalized on a Campbell fumble, returning it 49 yards for a touchdown, increasing their advantage to 34-14. The second quarter concluded with a remarkable 81-yard touchdown run by Dwayne Moody, with the extra point by Ethan Brookbank making it 40-14 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Liberty’s Dawaun Moody scoring a 65-yard kick return touchdown, followed by another successful extra point, bringing the score to 48-14. In the fourth quarter, Campbell made a brief resurgence, responding with their own kickoff return for a touchdown, making it 48-21. Liberty wasn’t finished, as Chamir Franklin broke free for an 81-yard touchdown run, followed by another successful extra point, extending their lead to 55-21. The game concluded with Daiyon Tutwiler dashing for a 61-yard touchdown, and although there was no extra point attempt, the final score stood at an emphatic 67-21 in favor of Liberty.

CAMPBELL IN DISTRICTS FOR THE FIRST TIME

MENTOR OH- Campbell’s volleyball team etched their name into the program’s history books with a resounding victory in the sectional finals, securing their first-ever ticket to the district tournament. They did so in style, sweeping Warren JFK with set scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20.

The triumph was a collective effort, with standout performances from various players. Cyra Cross and Elysia Rudolphi showcased their serving prowess, each recording 2 aces to keep the scoreboard ticking. Kendall Brunn led the offensive charge with an impressive 12 kills, while MiLeena Williams and Cyra Cross added 8 and 4, respectively. The defensive line was held strong by Kendall Brunn and Angeliz Diaz, each contributing 2 crucial blocks. Carla Ramirez Ortiz orchestrated the team’s plays, tallying an impressive 29 assists. In the backline, Cyra Cross and Angeliz Diaz were instrumental in preserving the rallies with 7 and 6 digs, respectively.

On the opposing side, Warren JFK displayed their own strengths. Jasmine Ridley stood out with 2 aces, while Hannah Myers delivered 6 crucial kills. Danielle Wickham served as the team’s playmaker with 11 assists, and Aniyah Johnson demonstrated her blocking prowess with 4 crucial blocks. Jasmine Ridley was a standout in the digging department, registering a remarkable 17 digs.

With this victory, Campbell’s volleyball journey advances to the district semifinals, where they will face the formidable top-seeded Mentor Lake Catholic. The showdown is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:00 at Grand Valley High School.

RED DEVILS ELIMINATE CONFERENCE RIVAL

CAMPBELL OH- Campbell Memorial’s volleyball team set the tone for their tournament run with a convincing victory over conference rival Liberty. The win marked the third time this year that Campbell prevailed over their opponent, displaying their consistent dominance on the court. The match ended with set scores of 25-10, 25-21, and 25-20.

Campbell Memorial’s players showcased their skills and teamwork throughout the game, resulting in a well-deserved win. Cyra Cross led the charge with an impressive 6 aces, while Angeliz Diaz and Elysia Rudolphi contributed 4 and 3 aces, respectively, ensuring a strong service game. The offensive duties were spread across the team, with Kendall Brunn, MiLeena Williams, and Cyra Cross all tallying 8 kills, and Angeliz Diaz chipping in with 6 kills. Kendall Brunn also made her presence felt with 2 blocks, displaying her defensive capabilities. Carla Ramirez Ortiz orchestrated the team’s offense with 27 assists, showcasing her playmaking skills.

In the backcourt, the team’s defense was impressive, with Angeliz Diaz and Cyra Cross contributing 13 digs each. Jayda Coriano and Carla Ramirez Ortiz added 11 digs each, and Gabriela Villanueva Santos completed the solid defensive effort with 10 digs.

Campbell advances to play Warren JFK on Thursday in the sectional finals. That game will be at 6:00 at Mentor Lake Catholic.

LIBERTY OH- Campbell’s volleyball team closed out their regular season in historic fashion, notching their 17th win, setting a new benchmark in the program’s history. The Red Devils displayed their dominance with a sweep of Liberty, achieving victory with scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-14.

Several standout performances by Campbell players contributed to their historic achievement. Leading the charge was Kendall Brunn, who delivered an impressive 14 kills, showcasing her prowess as an offensive force on the court. MiLeena Williams also made a significant impact with 12 kills and contributed defensively with 3 blocks.

Elysia Rudolphi displayed her serving skills with 5 aces, while Angeliz Diaz added 4 aces, further solidifying Campbell’s control over the match. In the role of setter, Carla Ramirez Ortiz contributed 29 assists, emphasizing her crucial role in orchestrating the team’s offense.

Defensively, the Red Devils were anchored by Gabriela Villanueva Santos, who secured 15 digs, and Carla Ramirez Ortiz and Cyra Cross, each recording 10 digs, helping to maintain a strong backcourt.
