CARDINALS SHOW OFF THEIR SKILL

MCDONALD OH- Canfield displayed a strong performance on the road, sweeping McDonald in three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-21. The Canfield team showed excellent teamwork and skill throughout the match.

Ashtyn Hanousek and Lauren Miasek both contributed with 5 kills each, while Meredith Ross and Lily Weaver added 6 kills each. Jenna Triveri also pitched in with 4 kills. Carly Fleming orchestrated the offense effectively with 15 assists, ensuring precise plays. Defensively, Alexis Lefoer and Katelyn Bacha stood out with 12 digs each, demonstrating their prowess in the backcourt. Carly Fleming and Isabella Bucciarelli both delivered powerful serves, each contributing 2 aces to the team’s success.

On the McDonald side, Gianna Constantino led the way with 6 kills and an impressive 19 digs, showcasing her all-around skills. Megan Klockner provided 16 assists and 3 digs to support the team’s offense. Grace Bundy contributed with 4 kills and 1 block, while Miley Titus displayed strong defensive play with 16 digs.

With this convincing victory, Canfield is set to open AAC play on Tuesday with a matchup at Warren Harding. Meanwhile, McDonald will continue to defend their home turf as they host Sebring on Tuesday. This game demonstrated Canfield’s prowess and teamwork, securing a well-deserved win on the road.

CANFIELD LETS LOOSE ON THE QUAKERS

CANFIELD OH- In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Canfield girls’ soccer team continued their winning streak, advancing to 4-0-0 with a resounding 4-1 victory over Salem.

Maci Toporcer shone brightly, netting a remarkable hat-trick, while Lorieona Jannone contributed a goal of her own. The Canfield players showcased their excellent cohesion, with Lexi Toporcer and Vivian Nohra providing crucial assists that facilitated the scoring. Despite their efforts,

Salem managed to find the back of the net through Rylee Hutton’s goal. Canfield’s defensive prowess was highlighted by goalie Lolo Padgett, who made a vital save to maintain their lead. Salem’s goalkeeper, Kaylee Carlisle, put up a valiant effort, making 11 saves throughout the match.

The statistics revealed Canfield’s dominance, as they outshot Salem by an impressive margin of 21 to 2. This victory was a testament to Canfield’s skill, teamwork, and determination on the field.

CANFIELD SPOILS MOONEY HOME OPENER

YOUNGSTOWN OH- In an impressive display on the road, Canfield swept Mooney in their home opener, taking control of the match with set scores of 25-19, 25-12, and 25-12.

Canfield’s dominance was palpable as they left no room for their opponents to gain momentum. Isabella Bucciarelli led the serving charge with an impressive 9 aces, while Carly Fleming orchestrated the offense with 14 assists. Ashtyn Hanousek’s powerful performance yielded 10 kills, and Jenna Triveri’s defensive prowess resulted in 7 blocks. Alexis LeFoer played a key role in defense, recording 12 digs. Mooney, though challenged, showcased their efforts with Natalie Blasko’s 16 assists, Amarra Anderson’s 6 kills, and Brinkley Bair’s 5 kills. Maria Pecchia’s 8 digs added depth to the team’s defensive efforts.

Looking ahead, Canfield gears up for a non-conference matchup at home against Mineral Ridge, while Mooney focuses on the highly anticipated Holy War against Ursuline on their home turf.

CARDINALS CLAIM URSULINE INVITATIONAL

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Youngstown Country Club was the scene on Monday as the Ursuline Invitational hosted 19 golf teams from various schools throughout the area. Cardinal Mooney would sweep the top spots in team and individual scores on the day.

The Cardinals Rocco Turner continued his stellar season as he took individual honors carding a 3-under 68. Alex Eckstein 73 and Dante Turner 74 contributed to the team title score of 300 out dueling University by a slim 2 stroke margin. Warren JFK would finish the day in 3rd with a score of 305. Andrew Lapolla would lead the Eagles carding a 75, while Bryce VanHorn and Henry Phillips added scores of 76. Ursuline Gold took the 5th place position, the Irish’s Chase Forsythe posted a 74,

Breen Dahman contributed a 79 for the host team. Archbishop Hoban claimed 6th place, the Knights were led by Ethan Cooper and Kord Ready each with a solid round of 78.  West Branch’s Jaxon Robb posted a 74, teammate Dominic Brenner added an 81 helping their Warriors secure a spot in the top 10.

CLIPPERS FINISH STRONG

COLUMBIANA OH-  In a thrilling volleyball showdown on their home turf, Columbiana secured an impressive victory over Cardinal Mooney in a hard-fought contest that unfolded over four sets. The final scores were 24-26, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-12, reflecting the fierce back-and-forth nature of the match that had fans on the edge of their seats.

Columbiana’s standout performances were evident on both offense and defense, with key players showcasing their prowess:

Ellie Jackson’s versatility was on full display as she registered a remarkable triple-double with 12 kills, 17 assists, and an impressive 20 digs. Her ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game proved pivotal for her team’s success.

Ava Heinrich made her presence felt with 21 crucial digs, coupled with 6 kills and an ace that added to Columbiana’s momentum on the court.

Kelsey Cameron’s contributions were impactful, with 6 kills, 4 aces, and 2 blocks that disrupted Mooney’s strategies and bolstered her team’s performance.

Danica Halas’ 7 kills showcased her offensive prowess, contributing to the team’s point-scoring efforts.

On the opposing side, Cardinal Mooney’s players demonstrated their own determination and skill:

Amarra Anderson and Brinkley Bair each notched an impressive 13 kills, demonstrating their offensive prowess and resilience.

Natalie Blasko orchestrated the team’s plays with 29 assists, while also amassing 14 digs to contribute defensively.

Maria Pecchia’s 22 digs and Katie Frommelt’s 15 digs demonstrated their dedication to the defensive aspect of the game.

Jaida Lane showcased her blocking abilities with 4 blocks and contributed with 4 kills, highlighting her role at the net.

As the match concluded, Columbiana emerged as the victors, setting their sights on their next challenge as they hit the road to face Leetonia in conference play. Cardinal Mooney, on the other hand, will return home to host Canfield on Tuesday. The intense showdown between these two skilled teams demonstrated the passion and talent that fuel the sport of volleyball, leaving fans eagerly anticipating their next encounters on the court.

CARDINALS HAVE THE WINNING EDGE

CANFIELD OH- In a thrilling girls’ soccer match, the Canfield team showcased their prowess, securing an impressive 4-1 victory over Kenston from Chagrin Falls. Canfield’s girls exhibited their coordinated gameplay and impeccable teamwork as they soared to a 3-0-0 record.

The scoring action was dominated by Canfield players:
– Maci Toporcer’s remarkable performance saw her netting two goals, contributing significantly to Canfield’s victory.
– Hanna Wahib demonstrated her skill with a goal of her own, adding to Canfield’s tally.
– Lorieona Jannone’s successful strike cemented Canfield’s lead even further.
– Halle Toporcer’s assists played an integral role in setting up the scoring plays.

On the opposing side, Kenston managed to find the back of the net with a goal by Ashlyn Hunter, showcasing their determination to compete despite the challenges they faced.

Canfield’s superiority was further evident in their shots, outshooting Kenston by a significant margin of 15 to 6. Canfield’s goalkeeper, Lolo Padgett, exhibited her skill with three critical saves that thwarted Kenston’s attempts to close the gap. Kenston’s goalkeeper, Mia Lioudis, showcased her own abilities with six saves in the face of Canfield’s offensive onslaught.

The final whistle confirmed Canfield’s well-deserved victory, firmly establishing their dominant presence on the field. With their 3-0-0 record, the Canfield girls’ soccer team has set a promising trajectory for the season ahead, while Kenston displayed resilience and determination throughout the match, despite the outcome.

MOONEY TAKES FOOTHOLD IN STEEL VALLEY CONFERENCE

Cardinal Mooney launched into conference play triumphantly by sweeping East in a 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-21, 25-14).

Jaida Lane’s standout performance included 10 kills and 2 blocks, while Brinkley Bair added 9 kills and 6 digs. Amarra Anderson’s 6 kills contributed to the team’s success. Natalie Blasko orchestrated the offense with 27 assists and 2 aces, and Maria Pecchia’s defensive prowess was on display with 14 digs and 2 aces.

Cardinal Mooney is set to compete again next Monday, facing off against Columbiana.

BULLDOGS SNATCH A VICTORY AWAY FROM CANFIELD

POLAND OH- WHAT. A. NIGHT. The Poland Bulldogs pulled off one of the greatest comebacks you’ll see this season, defeating Canfield by the final score of 2-1! The game started off with Canfield controlling the ball and with under 10 minutes played The Cardinals Forward, Andrew Battaglia, would put the first goal in the back of the net beating goalkeeper Michael Daley for Poland. 

 

There was much back and forth throughout the last 30 minutes or so with Canfield controlling play for most of it and getting some quality shots off but not getting any past Daley as the Poland goalkeeper would be locked in for the remainder of the game. 

The second half started off with more back and forth between the two sides but this time Poland started to show an edge and went after the ball more aggressivly resulting in them having possession for most of the game and creating more chances and finally testing Canfield goalkeeper Dominic Gizzi. 

The Bulldogs’ new found energy finally paid off with under five minutes to go in the match Junior Jacob Hayes would find himself on the rush with two cardinals on his side. With the great pressure being shown by the Canfield defense Hayes finally opted to take his shot and boy did he, the Bulldogs would pull even late in the match setting up an exhilarating final four minutes.

The Bulldogs continued to show pressure but seemed to slip back into their first half mentality which made them look content with a draw but with 25 seconds remaining in the game Junior bench player number six would find himself in front of the net and with a quick decision took his shot and sealed the deal for his team elevating them to a 2-1 comeback win!

 

Canfield is back in action next Tuesday when they host Cardinal Mooney at 7PM and Poland will hit the road to play Austintown Fitch on Thursday with a 7:15PM scheduled start time.

KNIGHTS SHOW THEIR VALOR IN HOME OPENER

AKRON OH- Hoban volleyball was excited to open their home schedule on Tuesday as they welcomed in Canfield for an all YSN showdown.  The Knights are coming off a 20 win season, and they believe they’re ready to take the next step. They proved that as a massive possibility as they made quick work of Canfield in straight sets (25-14 25-15 25-14).

Kathleen Jones and Amber Watson both finished the day with 10 kills.  Ava Norfolk was behind her two teammates in kills finishing with 4 kills. Canfield was led by Lauren Miasek and Lilly Weaver both with 4 kills on the night.

 

Hoban will get back to action looking to stay undefeated on Saturday hosting Twinsburg. Canfield will look to bounce back on Tuesday August 29th against Cardinal Mooney on the road.

TIGERS CLAW OUT FIVE SET VICTORY

NEW MIDDLETOWN OH-

In an intense volleyball showdown, Springfield emerged victorious after a thrilling 5-set battle against Cardinal Mooney. The scores told the tale: 21-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-17, and a nail-biting 19-17 in the final set.

Springfield’s Jameka Brungard stood out as a force to be reckoned with, amassing an impressive 20 kills that kept her team in the game. Baelyn Brungard’s 15 kills and 17 digs showcased her all-around skills, securing a double-double performance. Baelyn also made her presence felt at the service line, contributing 5 aces to her team’s efforts. Mariah Jones added to the attack with 10 kills and 5 digs, while Karigan Mullen orchestrated the offense brilliantly with 41 assists.

On the Mooney side, Brinkley Bair led the charge with 9 kills, while Jaida Lane and Amara Anderson contributed 7 and 6 kills respectively. Natalie Blasko orchestrated the team’s plays with 25 assists, and her serves proved to be potent, garnering 5 aces. Defensively, Maria Pecchia recorded an impressive 13 digs and added 5 aces to her repertoire, while Katie Frommelt tallied 11 digs to keep the ball in play.

Both teams demonstrated their skill and determination throughout the match, but it was Springfield’s resilience that ultimately clinched the victory in the closely contested fifth set. The match showcased outstanding performances from both sides, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats until the final point was scored.
