THE BOYS UP FRONT

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The playoffs are finally here in Northeast Ohio, and the Ursuline Irish are going to need to rely on their senior leadership to help propel them on a playoff run, and that starts with Casey Leugers and Michael Branch. The two linemen have helped pave a way for the explosive Irish offense, and hope to continue to do that for a few more weeks.

In this week’s dual-Player Profile, Leugers and Branch talk about last week’s win over Mooney, this week’s matchup with Hawken, and more!

LEUGERS’ LOCKED IN

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- There is a lot of experience when you look up and down the Ursuline defensive line, and you don’t have to look much further than Casey Leugers to see that with experience, comes skill. Leugers, who is now in his third season starting on the defensive line for the Irish, has already proven to be a game changer Ursuline in 2022. Ursuline has already made two deep playoff appearances during Leugers’ time making an impact for the Irish, making it to the Regional Final in 2020, and then advancing all the way to Week 16 last year, coming up just short in the State Championship Game. The 2022 squad is looking to take that next step, and hoist the golden hardware come this December, and Leugers could play a big role in that happening. In this week’s player profile, Casey talks about the toughness it takes to play as a lineman during football season, the goals for this season, and more!

MIGHTY CASEY TAKES HIS SWINGS

YOUNGSTOWN OH- While the Ursuline Irish have had a talented senior class this past season, the younger guys have also stepped up and made a big impact on the team.  One of those young players who is already a bit of a leader but looks to take the next step next season is Junior defensive lineman number 50 Casey Leugers.

Despite battling a little bit of an injury bug later on in the season, Leaguers came back for the Holy War in the regular season finale against Cardinal Mooney where he had a big part in the game, racking up 2.5 tackles which was in the top five of defensive tackles that night and one and a half TFLS.  Last week, he assisted in a TFL against Canton South in the big 48-20 victory.

Our very own Ian O’Brien caught up with Casey Leugers discussing the season, his big comeback from injury, who he models his game after and how it is, playing on an Irish team that was in a four year rebuild and not becoming one of the top teams in the valley.  There is no striking out for this young man! The third seeded Irish take on the sixth seeded Salem Quakers this week at Stambaugh Stadium 7pm kickoff.  You can buy the game and all the other playoff games along with it for $9.99 on YSN Live!!!
